If you have naturally curly hair, you've probably discovered that a lot of the home made solutions don't really have the same impact on your hair as they do on straight or wavy hair. Because of the natural formation of curls, they tend to need more styling products to properly penetrate each hair strand. The end result, your curls get weighed down with residue from your styling products and your curls lose their vitality. To treat this condition, curls need a little special attention. Since naturally curly hair is more prone to suffer damage from loss of moisture as well as frizziness and fly away strands, a deep cleaning rinse following by a conditioning treatment is the best course of action. You can make your own rinse at home. A rinse will remove the build up left behind by shampoos, conditioners and styling products. The residue pulls on your hair, not only adding weight which lessens your hairs' ability to curl, but the added weight makes your hair more susceptible to splitting or breaking. Keeping the build up under control is essential for healthy curls. Vinegar is a natural product for clean rinsing. Many people use it as a laundry rinse, since it removes soapy residue cleanly and effectively. A cup of apple cider vinegar mixed with three cups of warm water will do the same job on your hair. Apply your rinse and leave it on for about 15 to 20 minutes to allow it to dissolve the build up in your curls, then rinse it clean with warm water. Follow up your vinegar rinse with a natural deep conditioning protein treatment. Start with a cup of mayonnaise and add to it, one egg yolk and two tablespoons of liquid honey. Mix well and then generously coat your curls, allowing to penetrate for about half an hour. Mayonnaise is an egg product, and eggs are rich with protein, so this mask will give your hair much needed protein as well as improving the moisture content. Make sure you rinse your hair under running water until the water is clear and all traces of your hair mask are gone. Performed once every week or two, this rinse and conditioning treatment will leave your curls vibrantly shiny and full of bounce. Learn about hair color advice plus many other beauty tips.
