Turning 21 is a monumental age in the United States. Most young adults dream of celebrating the age by going to bars and clubs all night because they think it will be glamorous and exciting. What these youngsters don't know is that bars and clubs are expensive, and it's easy to rack up a $100 tab in just a few hours. However, the fact is that bars are fun, and they provide a nice night out for most weekends. The key to having a good time, though, is learning how to save money at a bar. |
It's important to have a designated driver when drinking because getting a DUI is a serious crime. Once a designated driver is established, save money on alcohol by having a few at home before heading out. Beer and liquor at grocery stores cost fractions of the cost compared to the same drink at a bar. Start by having 2 or 3 drinks before hitting the town.
While the high end bars and clubs might seem more alluring and enticing, sometimes a Nob Hill dive bar can provide a lot more fun for a lot less money. Nicer bars will charge sometimes double the price for a drink simply because they know people will pay that to hang out there. Don't judge a bar by the outside of the building, and try a dive bar for cheaper drinks.
Don't waste money on mix drinks. A glass of beer cannot be watered down and neither can a shot of liquor. However, mix drinks are typically very watered down, and the ratio of liquor to soda is usually disproportionate. Stick with shots and beer to get a better buzz for less money.
