The Frieze Art Fair is an annual art exhibition and sales event showcasing contemporary art galleries, special artists’ projects, talks programme and an education programme led by artists. The event is held at London’s Regent’s Park in October. The Freize Art Fair 2010 was held from the 14th to the 17th of October. Every year the fair features a collection of art from more than 150 of the world’s contemporary art galleries, while the talk programme is a prestigious and informative event not to be missed. The recently concluded event witnessed more than 60,000 visitors and as always, proved a golden opportunity for the international audience to get close to the work of established artists. Frieze Projects 2010 One of the important elements of the Frieze Art Fair is Frieze Projects, showcasing work specifically commissioned for the fair. Frieze Projects 2010 featured nine projects, collaborations with 2010 partner organizations and the Cartier Award that went to British-Japanese artist Simon Fujiwara. Artists commissioned for the 2010 Frieze Projects included Spartacus Chetwynd, Ei Arakawa & Karl Holmqvist, Matthew Darbyshire, Gabriel Kuri and Nick Relph. Frieze Talks 2010 Frieze Talks 2010 dealt with some key issues facing artists including “Who Owns Images?” - dealing with the issue of original artwork ownership in an era of digital technology where mobile phones and laptops enable anyone to process and edit pictures, sound and video - and “What’s So Funny?” where four artists discussed the role of humour in art. Frieze Film 2010 Frieze Film 2010 featured new work by commissioned British artists: Stephen Sutcliffe, Jess Flood-Paddock, Elizabeth Price and Linder. The commissioned films were free for the public and were shown with existing films by Frieze Projects artists and other selected programmes in a cinema specially constructed outside the entrance to the fair. Frieze Education 2010 Frieze Education 2010 was conducted in association with the Educational Outreach Team of the Royal College of Arts, ReachOutRCA, and included programs for children and young people. Cartier Award 2010 The 2010 Cartier Award winner, Simon Fujiwara, presented a unique and exciting installation for the Frieze Art Fair 2010 called “Frozen.” The work was based on a fictitious understanding that the discovery of an ancient city, once a commercial and art hub, has been made under the site of the art fair. The work therefore featured fictitious finds, graphic panels, artefacts and archaeological excavations – probably the most interesting element for visitors. Frieze Art Fair has recently been in the center of the argument - whether art fairs are merely about monetary success from sale of art works or also about providing a wholesome cultural and art experience. The success of the Frieze Art Fair has been in the latter, and it has chosen not to publish its sales figures since 2006. It has certainly proven to present a golden opportunity for art lovers and the general public to get close to global contemporary art and artists. Artists Materials Online is the internet portal for The Art Centre which was established in 1979 and stocks the most extensive range of Artists Supplies in the South West of England which includes a vast array of Oil Paints such as Winton Oil Colour from Winsor and Newton.
