Repeal of Don't Ask Don't Tell - The Doctrine of Fools

Law,Current Affairs,Christianity
With eight GOP Senators joining the vote to repeal DADT, including much heralded Scott Brown (R) of Massachusetts now gays can prance in array around the military just like they now do in the classrooms, the media and everywhere else they aspire to. Is it a good day for America?

The Apostle James warned that respecting someone because they were dressed well more than another would result in having to choose between the lesser of two evils. Although he worded it a bit differently than the old adage the meaning is exactly the same.

“Are ye not then partial in yourselves, and are become judges of evil thoughts?” (James 2: 4)

Forty years have passed since I first taught someone that in the last days choosing between right and wrong would give way to choosing between two wrongs and no one would notice the difference. That day is here.

The arguments engaged to affect the repeal of “don’t ask don’t tell’ are relatively uniform and pretty much all come to the conclusion that DADT was contrary to basic military code of honor. Not telling the truth about a sexual preference would seem like a dishonorable thing to do. On a purely logical basis that is wrong because DADT has to do with silence, not lying.

Logically it makes little sense to offend or risk offending the sensibilities of most soldiers for the preferences of a few. In the area of morals, traditional behaviors and Biblical teaching the repeal stands as a giant step into the realm of the lesser of two evils.

According to the clear teachings of the Apostle Paul the homosexual is already dis-honoring himself with the practice of his preference, not telling others about it could hardly add any more dis-honor to it under the Biblical view.

In a very concise Holy Spirit inspired discourse about the sinfulness of homosexuality Paul starts by saying that when men and women engage themselves in the practice of homosexuality they are already dishonoring themselves. How can honor come from dis-honor or more succinctly how can it get any more dishonorable by keeping silent about it?

Paul said, “Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves.” (Romans 1: 24)

Now soldiers, sailors and airmen will have to be watching over their shoulders for who may be watching them. Military chaplains will have to deny or disobey either God or their commanders depending on whether they are scripturally based ministers of the gospel.

The repeal will open an entirely new can of worms that the Senate and the military will wish they had never gotten into. I can safely predict that incidents will ensue, charges will be leveled and tribunals and lawsuits will not end. Military recruitment will drop off and morale among troops will decline.

This brainchild of the lame duck Senate and Congress is another serious mistake that will only add to the decline in American might and standing that has been underway for decades now. It is another slide toward a very special kind of reprobation marked with the words “made in America” stamped all over it.

Long ago the arguments ceased about whether a person of questionable moral character could carry out their job or their duties regardless of their preferences in private matters. We bought that bill of goods, years ago. We say that gay Congressmen, Senators, soldiers’ et al., can do their jobs as well as anyone but the scriptures say but nay. Declining higher morals is a lapse in judgment that will sooner or later make its way into all decision making. That is also a scriptural promise that can only be deferred but never avoided.

The Apostle Paul further elucidates the outcome of choosing not just the lesser of two evils but the greater evil. It does not end well.

“And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet. And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient” (Romans 1: 27, 28)

Nothing could be more frightening than the definition of the word reprobate. As it pertains to morality it means that a person has come to the place that they are unable to distinguish the difference between good and evil or right and wrong. If we had not chosen our servicemen with an eye to picking those with the keenest sense of right and wrong then the DADT repeal would be nothing. That is not the case and we will all know that in short time.

I offer no proof for this prognostication; time will take care of that for me, very little time.

The bill cannot become law until after a 60 day period where the House Armed services Committee hold hearings in which it will be decided if the bill is ‘consistent with military standards for readiness, effectiveness, unit cohesion, and recruiting and retention’ according to a story in the New York Times, Dec 18, 2010. We can still hope the military will not allow this scourge of confusion to beleaguer our troops at this critical hour with troops still fully engaged in Afghanistan.
