Which Fat Is Actually Good for Your Skin?

Over the years we've become afraid of foods that contain any kind of fat. Granted, loading up on ice-cream, milkshakes or burgers will do nothing to keep your waistline slim and slender. There are, however, differing types of fat. Some fatty charged ingredients are actually wonderful for your skin.

There are different types of fat in different substances. Trans fat, saturated fat and unsaturated fat. While trans fat does not break down and is generally considered unhealthy, saturated fats hold natural benefits for both health and beauty.

Some natural products, such as coconut, are a source of naturally saturated fat. However, as far as skin care goes, coconut oil can perform wonders. Naturally occurring saturated fats do not react or respond like trans fats or unsaturated fats, making them an ideal moisturizer and skin benefactor.

Adding some saturated fats to your diets in small portions will also benefit your skin care regime. Items such as eggs and lean meats will naturally boost your body's cell generation when eaten in moderation.

When including saturated fats into your diet, it's important to remember not to overdo it. While some studies have found that reducing saturated fats has little impact on cholesterol levels, there is no food or substance that won't cause harm if not taken in an appropriate fashion. In the case of saturated fats, a little goes a long way, and it's important to note that trouble arrives from eating too much of it.

Applied topically, however, saturated fats are already widely used in many cosmetic products. If you see items such as appleseed oil, olive oil and shea butter, they are sources of saturated fatty acids. These types of ingredients offer undisputed hydration properties and help protect the skin from free radicals.

While not all oils and fats are equal, it's important to remember that some fats are needed for our body's normal function and to keep us at our best. Essential saturated fats, taken in moderation are great for your overall health and offer unparalleled benefits when it comes to maintaining soft, smooth, wrinkle free skin.
