Cellulite is the formation of dips and dimples in the skin, most commonly around the hips, thighs and buttock areas. The dimpled areas that show on the skin are actually the valley created between lumps of hardened fat that have formed over time. Removing the surrounding fatty areas through diet and exercise to regain a smooth appearance is usually ineffective. Once the fat deposits have formed and hardened, regular work outs simply aren't enough to break them down.
However, there are some known solutions to rid yourself of cellulite.
For permanent removal, lasers have been used successfully to break up the fat deposits that have formed beneath the skin. It may take several sessions, but once the fat has been broken up completely, it can be washed away by the bloodstream. Lasers have very little side effects or pain, but you might experience some discomfort, similar to being snapped by an elastic band.
Of-course, if you have your cellulite removed, it's best to keep the fatty and sugary foods at bay and keep up with a good exercise regime so the lumpy deposits won't return.
For a short term solution, caffeine works wonders. It doesn't actually break down the cellulite lumps the way a laser does, but it does give the appearance of smoother, dimple free skin.
Caffeine is a stimulant which plumps up the indentations in the skin. Rather than making the cellulite lumps smaller, it makes the dimpled area plumper, so the surface of the skin is level and smooth. Many lotions and creams containing caffeine are effective in creating this look within a week or two. However, you can also use coffee grounds, which have a high level of caffeine, to achieve the same effect and smooth out your skin.
