Dandruff appears as white flakes on the scalp and in the hair. It is very light and often ends up on clothing and the upper parts of the body. Some people have a naturally tendency to have dandruff, while others are simply using products that create the flaking. Dandruff has two major causes. One is flaking of the scalp. It can be caused by either extreme dryness, or the opposite, extreme oiliness. An unhealthy scalp will flake and peel, causing the dandruff to appear. The other major cause of dandruff is a build up of products. Hairspray, mousse, gel and even heavy conditioners can coat the hair shaft. When this build up starts to loosen, it often comes off in flakes, resulting in dandruff. The good news is, there is help for those who suffer from dandruff to help eliminate it and prevent it from returning. Using anti-dandruff shampoos and washing your hair daily will eliminate product build up and also help condition the scalp. Moisturizing the scalp, even if you think it's oily, will keep it from chafing and forming flakes. Also, good moisturizing shampoos designed for dandruff will help slow down the oil production and keep your hair soft and manageable. Tea tree oil is a fantastic dandruff eliminator. A few drops massaged into the scalp, before you shampoo, will heal it and remove all traces of dandruff. You can also use tea tree oil shampoos to permanently rid yourself of flakes. If your dandruff is caused by a build up of styling products, cutting down on their use will help. Again, washing hair daily will help remove the build up, and you should also use a water-based conditioner. Some aerosol hair sprays are notorious for build up. While they offer permanent freezing of your hair style, they also cling to the hair shaft. When the hair rubs together, this type of product can flake, creating dandruff. Switching to a different brand or product is often all you need to be dandruff free. Discover more gorgeous beauty tips and advice at our beauty website.
