Izmir, the third largest city in Turkey is a combination of commercial center, busy port and a holiday resort. The town of Oludeniz is one of the best holiday spots in Turkey with its Mediterranean sea, sandy bays and coves and a fabulous view of the Taurus Mountains. A further 70 km down the coast is the quiet resort of Kalkan which has some good bars and restaurants. Bodrum is another well-known Turkish holiday destinations and one can have the best sea-food here in all of Turkey. One cannot leave Turkey without experiencing the amazing region of Cappadocia which has a surreal lunar landscape filled with thousands of carved caves. The coastal resort of Alanya is another popular tourist stop where one can marvel at the 15,000 years old stalactites and stalagmites at the Damlatas Cave.
