Holidays In Turkey For Fun And Frolic

Travel & Tourism
Holidays in Turkey offer an amazing mix of culture, history and fun things to do just like holidays in Tenerife. You can have a whale of a time paragliding along the Mediterranean coast, sailing, diving or mountain bike riding and intersperse all this with liberal does of culture. Don’t forget to indulge in a relaxing Turkish bath in the famous ‘hamams’ of Turkey!

The capital of Turkey, Ankara is right at the center of the country and is steeped in history. If you are a history buff, then Ankara is surely the place for you as it has so many archaeological sights that you will be hard-pressed for time to see them all. Ankara is also famous for its exotic flora and fauna like the angora goats and cats and rabbits. Its Muscat grapes are highly prized.

But, the most famous city of Turkey undoubtedly is Istanbul and reams have been written on this fabled seat of the Ottoman Empire. Straddling two continents with one foot in Europe and the other in Asia, the city is divided into two by the glorious Bosphorus River where public ferries and water taxis carry passengers from one end to the other. For some sightseeing, there is the Dolmabahce Palace which is an impressive building with a stunning interior complete with alabaster baths and a crystal staircase. It also has a crystal chandelier weighing almost over 4 tons.

The Miniaturk is another popular attraction located on the north east shore of the Golden Horn and consists of 105 of Turkey’s most famous sights recreated in miniature. Topkapi Palace, Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Hippodrome, Basilica Cistern are the other not-to-be –missed attractions of Istanbul.

The Grand Bazaar of Istanbul is the ultimate medieval shopping center whether you are simply browsing or making actual purchases. Haggling is part of the shopping experience and you can pick up Turkish carpets at bargain prices if you haggle right! The Egyptian Bazaar is the place to pick up all your exotic Oriental spices and will haunt you as memorable holidays in Egypt.

Izmir, the third largest city in Turkey is a combination of commercial center, busy port and a holiday resort. The town of Oludeniz is one of the best holiday spots in Turkey with its Mediterranean sea, sandy bays and coves and a fabulous view of the Taurus Mountains. A further 70 km down the coast is the quiet resort of Kalkan which has some good bars and restaurants. Bodrum is another well-known Turkish holiday destinations and one can have the best sea-food here in all of Turkey.

One cannot leave Turkey without experiencing the amazing region of Cappadocia which has a surreal lunar landscape filled with thousands of carved caves. The coastal resort of Alanya is another popular tourist stop where one can marvel at the 15,000 years old stalactites and stalagmites at the Damlatas Cave. Belek with its many private beaches is also a big favorite with holidaymakers going for holidays in Egypt.

Holidays in Turkey offer a fascinating experience like holidays in Tenerife and an insight into a country which has a Western head but an Eastern soul!
