Here are some fun ways to spend quality time with your children when the weather won't permit them to play outside: * Make a Fort – When was the last time you put aside your to do list and made a fort with your kids. Because you’re helping, the fort will be well constructed and more elaborate than your kids are used to – they’ll be so excited! Bend the rules a little and let them have lunch, eat snacks, and even watch movies in their fort – you’ll be their favorite person, we promise! * “Visit” a Tropical Place – Instead of letting the rain put a damper on your mood, bring the warmth and sunshine to you by transforming your living room into a tropical paradise! Set up chairs for the plane ride and be sure to serve drinks and pretzels before you land. Once you’ve landed in your tropical paradise, have your kids wear leis and swim trunks or hula skirts and serve tropical drinks and snacks while dancing to Hawaiian music. You’ll enjoy the day of fun and we guarantee your kids won’t forget this rainy day for a long time! * Craft Day – Kids love to do crafts, especially ones that they may not get to do on a regular basis (i.e. painting, glitter, cutting, gluing). Rainy days are the perfect excuse to let loose and let your kids get creative with crafts. In order to avoid a huge mess, plastic table covers and newspapers will be your saving grace. Cover the floor and tables with a protective covering and make it very clear to your children that craft supplies are to stay on the table and not anywhere else in the house. While you should supervise their crafting, it’s important to let their imaginations run wild and encourage them to explore and experiment with different ideas and techniques. You’ll be amazed with how much fun they will have! * Create your own Movie Theater – Kids love going to the movies, but on a rainy day lugging everyone out to the theater may not seem too appealing. Instead, bring the movie theater to you… let your kids pick their favorite movie, make “tickets” and give them pretend money to buy snacks and drinks at the concession stand. You can even close the blinds and turn out the lights to make it feel like you’re really there!
