One day, I woke up and felt something strange in my teeth. It was a stinging sensation, and I figured that in spite of my best efforts, I must have developed a cavity. I made an appointment with my dentist and got in as quickly as I could. It really was painful and discomforting. I was happy to find out that I did not have a new cavity, but rather, an old one. One of my fillings, from when I was in high school, had come lose and was causing the irritation. My dentist told me that one of the problems with the old metal fillings is that they sometimes do not hold up. With all of the scare about people being poisoned by their fillings, he told me that he could actually remove all of my metal fillings and replace them with enamel that would be better looking and longer lasting. I asked him for the pricing, which was not that bad at all, and agreed to the process. It took a couple of hours, but when he was done, all of my metal fillings were gone. My bite felt a little awkward because of the excess enamel, but my dentist told me just to ignore that; the enamel would eventually wear down to my normal bite. That was a few years ago, and I am happier with my smile that I have ever been before. I highly recommend the procedure for anyone wanting to get their fillings upgraded.
