It’s nice to know a few of the more basic etiquette rules before you go to one of the wine tasting events. And remember that these hold especially true if you’re going to a vineyard tasting room. There, they tend to hold to the formal strictures for wine tasting. First things first, if you’re going to a wine tasting then don’t put on any perfume. This can interact with your wine palate and you might get confusing signals from your nose. Perfumes include after shaves, colognes, perfumed body lotions and anything else that might overpower your sense of smell. Don’t smoke at a wine tasting. Others might not appreciate if you light up right next to them and destroy whatever wine palate they have. Also if you smoke, your own wine tasting abilities will go down the drain and you’ll be left with very little to taste your wines properly. Another thing that you’ll want to avoid at a wine tasting is chewing gums or mints. The taste of the gum or the mint will almost definitely impair your sense of taste and smell besides altering the taste of the wine. And one of the most important things that you should remember is not to criticize the wines. If you like them then fine, but if a wine doesn’t agree with your palate keep your opinion to yourself. It’s simply bad manners to comment adversely on something that your host gives you, and you know that you wouldn’t think about telling your host if the food they served was lousy. So take that to heart and don’t tell them that the wines were lousy. Muna wa Wanjiru is a web administrator and has been researching and reporting on internet marketing for years.
