Using Social Networks
Social networks such as Facebook and Myspace are taking over the web. They’re already some of the most visited websites worldwide, and now that even the older generations are starting to use them, they’re only getting bigger. So what does all this mean to you, the business owner? Well, simply put, it means you need to be using social networks to promote your business. Many businesses do this, and usually label it “social media marketing”. Sometimes it’s done legitimately, with both the social network and their users agreeing with it, and sometimes it’s done poorly, using spam and other dirty tricks. I encourage you to do social media marketing the right way.
There are many different ways to promote on social networks. Usually these sites have pretty strict rules regarding advertising, so if you don’t want to get banned make sure you do the research first and figure out the rules you must obey. Take Facebook, for example. Their advertising guidelines are very strict, and you will quickly be banned if you don’t follow them. Avoid obvious spam like simply sending out an advertisement to all your friends – it’s not enjoyable for anyone, and even if it does work and someone does click on the ad, you will probably be banned within a few days, so you’ll have no residual income. Viral video promotionUsing viral videos to promote your business might be the best way to use social media. If you don’t already know, viral videos are videos that gain massive popularity through the Internet, mainly because of people linking to it and showing their friends. Usually, these videos have to be unique enough to attract the attention of various demographics, and funny/shocking/clever enough to continue to rise in popularity. Social networks are the breeding grounds of the Internet, so if you can properly place a viral video that promotes your business on a social network, you will surely see some great results.
