There is an old saying: 'what goes around, comes around'. Funny how true some of these sayings can be. Our Grannies and Great-Grannies often, through necessity not choice, bought locally sourced food, from local small businesses, which was delivered fresh to their doors. You didn't even need to be rich to do this; it was just the way things were. The next generation went all 'modern' and drove off to the supermarket once a week to fight their way through the crowds of dazed shoppers and be served by grumpy checkout girls and boys. Our generation, is of course, hyper-modern, we've invented these things called 'locally sourced' and 'small suppliers', when it comes to our groceries. These days, 'locally sourced' and 'small businesses' are the buzz words for the health and budget conscious. We did invent them, didn't we? Respect to Grandma OK, respect to the grandma's of the land, they were at it years ago. These days there are a number of options for shopping online for your groceries. Supermarkets, in a slightly bewildered manner, have tried to rise to the challenge. Shopping for groceries via the supermarkets online service is OK, you certainly don't end up buying extra little 'bits or pieces' that you don't need. Quality generally is OK, but you never really know who's been picking your vegetables, and this can make you feel a little uncomfortable. Delivery charges vary, but unless you want to do the 'big shop' online they are expensive. Bills and Beautiful Presentation The next possibility is ordering from specialist suppliers, meat and vegetables suppliers have abounded in the last few years, operating both off and online. Many small producers and farmers will offer a 'Veg Box' scheme, or pack up beautifully wrapped and exorbitantly priced joints of meat. The quality you will get from this sort of supplier is likely to beat the supermarkets in general, but the costs of not only the groceries themselves, but the delivery charges make this kind of shopping for groceries the preserve of the middle classes, or a one-off special purchase for the rest of us! The Third Way The third way to buy your groceries online comes in a familiar, but surprising guise. If you thought that the traditional milkman had trundled off the streets of Britain for good, think again! Forget Superman, the Milkman is back. He's been joined by Milkwoman, and they could prove to be just the sort of practical super-hero we all need in the increasingly expensive 21st century. The dairies now offer a full range of groceries for delivery, including tea, coffee, butter, cheese, bread, meat and vegetables. This service has two distinct advantages: where else can you order up to nine pm and expect free delivery first thing the next morning? Yes, not only do you get your food delivery before you have quite woken up, the delivery is normally free. Where the service is available it means you are on an established 'round'. This has to be the most cost effective and prompt form of the new version of groceries delivery. The final advantage is that you will get to build a relationship with your delivery man or woman, which unlike supermarket deliveries helps you to build a sense of trust, knowing that your vegetables and other groceries are in good hands! Shopping for groceries online is a growing trend, with a number of suppliers now developing. Amongst them is the modern day superhero – “Milkman”. He doesn't fly through the air but has a lot of impressive and useful offers delivering a range of food and groceries aswell as his usual dairy products and milk ranges.
