Comedian Steve Carell has come a long way from his role as Michael Scott on the American version of the television sitcom, The Office. He is also no longer just The 40-Year Old Virgin, Andy Stitzer. Very recently, he became God’s modern day Noah, starring as the title character, Evan Baxter, in the Bruce Almighty sequel, Evan Almighty, which opened in theaters in the United States last weekend. The actor, who won a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy in 2006, for his role in The Office, will next be seen in another romantic comedy, Dan in Real Life, which wrapped up filming in December of last year and is scheduled for release on October 12 this year. Dan in Real Life tells the story of a widower who is faced with the daunting responsibility of bringing up his three daughters all by himself, while fulfilling his duties as a parenting columnist for a local newspaper. To add spice, color and complication to his life, Carell’s character, Dan Burns, falls in love with the beautiful Marie, played by the Academy Award winning French actress Juliet Binoche, who happens to be his younger brother’s girlfriend. The movie, which is directed by Peter Hedges and written by Pierce Gardner, also stars Dane Cook as Mitch Burns, Dan’s younger brother, along with Norbert Leo Butz as Clay Burns, John Mahoney as Poppy Burns, double Oscar winner Dianne Wiest as Nana, Alison Pill as Jane Burns, Brittany Robertson as Cara Burns, Marlene Lawston as Lilly Burns, Emily Blunt as Ruthie Draper, Jessica Lussier as Jessica Burns, Shana Carr as Suzanne Burns, Willa Cuthrell-Tuttleman as Bella Wilson, and C.J. Adams as Elliott Burns. Dan in Real Life was shot on location in Jamestown, Misquamicut, and Providence, Rhode Island and is distributed by Touchstone Pictures.
