What to Do If You Really Want To Deal With Stress

Health
Everyone has stress in his and her life. How much stress you have and how you handle stress has a lot to do with how it affects you. So if you really want to deal with stress and live a life that is stress free, make use of the following tips and you’ll be better off.

• Think positive: Always try to think positive every time. Take a moment to think of about all you have been given and how blessed you are. • Go to bed on time so you can start the next day unrushed and learn to start each day with devotions and/or personal development reading. • Separate worries from concerns. If a situation is a concern, find out what you would have to do to let get out of the anxiety. If you cannot do anything about the situation, forget it. • Know your limits and be realistic about what you can accomplish in a day and do not beat yourself up when you do not achieve your goals. Tomorrow is another day, start writing tomorrow’s to-do-list before you lie down so that it will be off your chest. • Be aware of your choices; you always have a choice. This is true for emotions and work. Sometimes you need to let your emotions out but still in control. • Say “NO” to projects that will not fit into your time schedule or that will compromise your mental health. • Prioritize your task and work to finish them starting with the highest priority. • Do the most unpleasant or the most difficult task at the beginning of the day when you are fresh, thereby avoiding the stress of last minute preparation. Remember that “procrastination feeds stress”. • Delegate tasks to capable hands, and learn how to simplify your life. • Smiling is a two-way mechanism. We do it when we’re relaxed and happy, but doing it can also make us feel relaxed and happy. “Smiling transmits nerve impulses from the facial muscles to the limbic system, a key emotional center in the brain, tilting the neurochemical balance toward calm,” Go ahead and grin. Don’t you feel better already? • Be organized: Much stress arises from feeling overwhelmed. Being organized and getting your priorities straight can help you break responsibilities down into manageable pieces and focus on the things that really matter. • At the first sign of stress, you often hear people complain, ‘What did I do to deserve this?’ The trouble is, feeling like a victim only increases feelings of stress and helplessness. Instead, focus on being proactive. If your flight gets canceled, don’t wallow in self-pity. Find another one. If your office is too hot or too cold, don’t suffer in silence. Call the building manager and ask what can be done to make things more comfortable. • Stop worrying about what you cannot change. Learning to accept things as they are an important coping mechanism, but not as easy as it sounds. • Have backups; an extra car key in your wallet, an extra house key buried in the garden, extra stamps, etc. • Review your goals at the end of the day, this will help you sleep better. • Take responsibility of what you want your life to be. It is less stressful to make decisions and take actions than to feel powerless and react to others decision. Decide what you want and go for it. • Before you say or do something you’ll regret, step away from the stressor and correct yourself, you can also look away for a moment or put the caller on hold. Use your time-out to take a few deep breaths, stretch, or recite an affirmation. • Breathing from your diaphragm oxygenates your blood, which helps you relax almost instantly, Shallow chest breathing, by contrast, can cause your heart to beat faster and your muscles to tense up, exacerbating feelings of stress. To breathe deeply, begin by putting your hand on your abdomen just below the navel. Inhale slowly through your nose and watch your hand move out as your belly expands. Hold the breath for a few seconds, and then exhale slowly. Repeat several times. • Look out the window and find something natural that captures your imagination. Notice the clouds rolling by or the wind in the trees. • When you take a walk, It forces you to breathe more deeply and improves circulation. Step outside if you can; if that’s not possible, you can gain many of the same benefits simply by walking to the bathroom or water cooler, or by pacing back and forth. “The key is to get up and move”. • Eat a healthy food, because your choice of food is very important when dealing with stress. Stay away from sugary snacks! • Drink water, it is the best beverage and stay off alcohol which always add to stress one way or another. Caffeine is also known to raise stress level, try to limit it. • Get fit. Exercise your body every day. This releases endorphins that can lower stress levels. • Listen to good and motivating music of your choice. Since stress can inspire intense emotional reaction. Utilize it. Vent the spleen to a favorable piece of music and experience a happy release. Positive and relaxing music can be a helpful tool in de-stressing yourself. If all these give away tips listed above are followed, you’ll be on your way to living a stress free life. “For more info on how to live a stress free life; visit http://www.no-more-stress.in”
