Starting July 12, NBC's latest reality series, Age of Love will be aired on Australian airwaves. The show features Australian tennis player Mark “Scud” Philippoussis and will be shown every Thursday night on the Seven Network. It is set to fill in the channel's 8:30 pm timeslot, thus competing with the Nine Network's new big-budget drama series, Sea Patrol. However, this schedule is only applicable for areas such as Sydney and Brisbane. In Adelaide, Perth and Melbourne, the 8:30 pm timeslot is filled in by ABC's Lost, thus Age of Love will air an hour later. Age of Love is hosted by Mark Consuelos, former star of daytime soap opera, All My Children. The show, like any other dating reality series, follows Philippoussis as he searches for his true love among a chosen group of women who will, in a way, compete for his love. However, there's a little twist to this reality dating series. The group of women are actually divided into two smaller groups on the basis of age. One group, which is called the "cougars," is made up of 40 or forty something year old women while the "kittens," are comprised of a younger crowd of 20 year old women. Initially, Philippousis did not know about this arrangement, but eventually found out and got used to it, as he got to know the older women who were first introduced to him. The end of the series premiere saw the former Wimbledon finalist eliminating Jodie from the "cougars." Monday's episode saw Philippousis being introduced to the younger crowd of "kittens" and consequently sending two more ladies home, Lauren from the "kittens" and Angela from the "cougars." Despite the show's unusual concept, it was not able to garner a high number of viewers, debuting with only 6.9 million viewer count. Its competitors has left it behind with Two and A Half Men reruns having 9.2 million viewers, How I Met Your Mother having 7.5 million viewers, and Hell's Kitchen having 7.3 million viewers. Ratings aren't the only ones to tell that the show isn't doing good, as the show has received a number of bad reviews, including one from Variety magazine which said, "Philippoussis, after all this, might realize he's better off staying single."
