Herbal vaporizers have earned a bad reputation in many people’s eyes. Their perception is that they are used for illegal purposes and nothing else. When someone reads, herbal vaporizer, the first thing that pops into many people’s minds is weed vaporizer, pot vaporizer or something worse. They don’t realize that for others it is an important tool that they use occasionally or even daily. For many, vaporizing herbs and yes, even marijuana, is a very effective health aid. When used legally, by adults, many feel even marijuana has several health benefits. It can relieve nausea for those that are undergoing chemotherapy. It can also be used to stimulate the appetite (the munchies?). For others, reduction of stress or sleep aid may be what they are seeking. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not advocating the illegal use of marijuana, but in some states medical marijuana usage is legal. If one lives in a state where it is not, that doesn’t mean having an herbal vaporizer is illegal. Many herbs and oils can be used effectively in a vaporizer. One might use Peppermint, either in the herb or the essential oil form, as an effective remedy to relieve muscle spasms, relieve bloating and colic, or the one I find interesting, relieve flatulence. Some people use peppermint to relieve colon spasms and to help cure ulcers. Passion Flower can be used in a vaporizer as an anti-inflammatory. It has also been used as a blood pressure lowering sedative or a tranquilizer. Another herb with anti-inflammatory properties is Chamomile. It’s also has antispasmodic properties and can serve as a relaxant. Of course, I have always associated Chamomile as a tea, used in the evening before bed, as a sleep aid. An herbal vaporizer can be used in aromatherapy. Of course, some are probably easier to use in a room for that purpose but vapor inhaled by an individual can also be considered aromatherapy. Some vaporizers are capable of vaporizing oils as well as herbs, but others are not. In addition, temperature control is a concern for some. Some units can control the temperature within a very small range. Other vaporizers may have only a single temperature or are controlled by the amount of external heat applied. Another very important use of vaporizers is as an aid to quit smoking. We’ve all heard how bad smoking is for us. The side effects of smoking have been driven into our hearts and minds for many years. Even second hand smoke can be deadly to those around the smoker. Vaporizers don’t emit second hand smoke. Unfortunately for many, stopping smoking is not an easy task. Smokers have it rough; they have become addicted to smoking and find it almost impossible to stop. A vaporizer can be used with tobacco, providing the nicotine fix that so many crave. What they don’t get is all the tars and harmful carcinogens that are released when tobacco is burned. The same is true of smoking herbs. Combustion is the bad guy, not the vaporizer. In conclusion, consider using an herbal vaporizer. It’s hard to overlook the stigma that’s been attached to herbs, especially cannabis, and herbal vaporizers. However, I haven’t found any studies that say straight out, that using cannabis (pot, weed ,marijuana) is harmful. You may find that it provide benefits to your health that you hadn’t even considered. As always, please be sure you do your research about the herbs you are planning to use.
