I remember wanting to earn a doctorate back in the early 1990s. At that time, I was living in Houston, and I investigated the local universities to determine my options. Each of the brick-and-mortar universities in Houston required that I commit most of my time to the studies, which meant that I would need to leave my job. Given that I needed the money, the residency requirement was a showstopper. I foolishly stopped looking, thinking that a doctorate degree was impossible given my busy schedule. It wasn’t until nearly a decade later that I learned about earning my degree online, and most important, these universities were accredited by the same agencies that evaluate the rigor at Stanford, Texas Tech, and Princeton. In other words, the online degree had value, and my future employers would respect it. My Experience – Earning 8 Online Degrees First, I love to learn. Second, I worked for some universities that allowed me to take classes for free. For example, I would take one class every 8 weeks, which meant that I could earn a master’s in two years. Of course, the thesis was tough, but most of the online programs ask that you research a topic that is of interest to you, which makes it exciting work. I understand that eight degrees is too many for most people. The point I am making here is that I was able to earn all these degrees in less than a decade, and simultaneously kept my job, and had plenty of personal time. The advantage of online learning is that you can do the work from anywhere in the world. I remember working from Europe, South America, and even while cruising Alaska and The Caribbean.
