At Which Point in Time Would You Consider to Declutter Home?

The fact of the matter is that one person’s junk is another person’s treasures. With this in mind it gets pretty difficult to tell a person that their home is a mess and that they need to start to declutter home. After all what you perceive as clutter could simply be artistic license. But at which point does good decorating take the turn and simply nosedive into being clutter? It’s difficult to say at which point exactly, but if you’re what I like to call a "clutter bug", like I used to be, then you are probably even at this instant be looking at piles and piles of clutter all over the room, and no, if you think back, they weren’t part of the original décor.

And if you really open your eyes and look, you also probably have too many things in too many non-places all around the house, from the kitchen to the living room to the bedroom and even what used to be a guest bedroom, but what is now home for your spare junk and heaven knows what else. If you’re that type of person then this article is for you. It doesn’t presume to hold your hand while you declutterer home, nor does it presume to tell you what exactly you should do with your clutter.

Instead, when I wrote this, I meant for it to be taken as a guide to all the things that you could do to declutter home. As you will see going through this article, these are many and varied, and depending on your rate of clutter you can carry these out, as you see fit. Overall this was supposed to be a fun and inspiring article on what you could do to declutter home. Not everyone will be able to follow what I’ve written down here, but hopefully you will become so fired up with enthusiasm that you will feel like to declutter home of your own accord

It’s very easy to look at the piles of clutter in any room and feel exhausted by just looking at them. This is because just the thought of the sheer amount of work we will have to do get rid of all the clutter from our lives seems overwhelming. And it really is overwhelming if you go about it using the old-fashioned method of sorting things through one by one. This might be effective in its own way but only for people who have the time and the inclination to do so.

Not to mention the fact that these people probably haven’t let their clutter accumulate the way we have! It is a known fact that when there is only a small pile of clutter it is much less exhausting mentally to clean it up. The problem which I had way back when, is that I would try to declutter home using the old fashioned methods of sorting. I would make inroads into the clutter there is no doubt about that. But, if I stopped for any reason or I got called away for any reason, even for a few minutes, my rhythm would be broken and I would once again begin to feel exhausted just by looking at the mess I had yet to sort through.

Then there would also be the times when I would manage to get through an entire room filled to brimming with clutter and manage to declutter it. These were red letter days and something to be celebrated. I even managed to bring myself to declutter home in the days following my massive clean up efforts, and this usually worked. For a short time. When the room stayed clutter free for entire blocks of days with only a minimal effort on my part it was a great triumph. I would be able to fool myself into thinking that I would be able to do this always, and that I would never again have to fight to declutter home again.

Yeah right! That was just wishful thinking on my part. I also very conveniently forgot of course, the other rooms which still remained chock-full of piles and piles of clutter. Then the inevitable would happen and no sooner would I turn my back on my cleaning ways for a day or two, than the piles and piles of clutter would start, well, piling up and getting out of hand. My complacency over the matter not to mention my years of denial were overwhelming.

I remember that there was even one room which I was eventually unable to set foot in and which I ultimately resorted to just gazing at, with a future determination to get to that room for decluttering when I had been through the rest of the house. Again, the only adequate response to that is, "yeah, right!"
