Without any doubt there is enough evidence that the correct use of the right vitamins and antioxidants can prevent and even reverse degenerative diseases, like many forms of cancer, heart disease, arthritis, type 2 diabetes, and many other diseases, whose main cause is oxidative stress, like lung – and liver disorders, cataracts and degenerative diseases of the brain. Scientists in America are convinced by this evidence and are not afraid to risk their university career or research grants by telling the truth in the public media. Here are a few of their comments about the use of vitamin supplements: Jerome Cohen MD, Professor of Internal Medicine at St Louis University School of Medicine used to be against vitamin supplements. He will tell you now that he takes 400 IU of vitamin E daily to help him with protecting his heart. Dr. Simon Meydani of the Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging at Tufts University in Boston:” We looked at vitamins only in terms of what you needed to prevent short-term deficiencies. Now we are starting to think about what is the optimal level of vitamins for lifelong health and to prevent age-associated diseases. Dr. Gladys Block, formerly of the National Cancer Institute, now at the University of California, reviewed the top 15 studies on vitamin C and cancer rates. People in the top 25% regarding vitamin C intake, had only one-half to one-third the rate of cancers of the esophagus and stomach of those in the bottum 25%. Dr. Daniel Menzel of the University of California:”Priming children with antioxidants could protect them against lung disease as adults…”. Dr. Walter Willett of Harvard University, an eminent researcher: “Untill quite recently, it was taught that everyone in this country gets enough vitamins through their diet and that taking supplements just creates expensive urine. I think we now have proof that this is not true. I think the scientific community has realized that this is a very important area for research.” The above mentioned scientists with their public announcements only represent a small number and only scratch the surface of the huge vitamin revolution that now happens in America. And fortunately, this vital health information is finally getting known to the public. For example: sixty percent of all Washington State dieticians now take multi-vitamins. And a survey indicates that 78% of Americans now believe that taking supplements will help to maintain their health. The prestigious Kellogg Report estimates that dissemination of new nutrition information will save $20.5 billion in health care costs. Last but not least, a statement of the USDA Human Nutrition Reserch Center, by their Director of Antioxidant Research,Dr. Jeffrey Blumberg, known as a conservative and careful scientist, finally put it straight. Talking about suppements of vitamins C and E and beta-carotene, he said: “We have the confidence that these things really do work.”
