Most of us when we had the chance to see LED tail lights for the first time would have been dazzled by the looks. However even though LEDs have been around for a long time they have only recently begun to find use in automotive lighting. For one thing they are able to achieve their full intensity faster than the incandescent lamps that preceded them. Since they light up faster they give the driver of the car following yours more time to react. Then they consume less power which means the car batteries can either produce more light for the same wattage or they can use the same lighting power and improve battery life. If they are left on for a while with the engine switched off, as a precaution, they do not drain the battery quickly. LEDs are also more durable and they are also not very expensive. This makes them a great option at a time when costs have to be kept low. They also require less room in the tail light than is required by the incandescent bulbs which gives the designers greater freedom in designing the tail lights. They are also more resistant to vibrations which can be expected to be quite severe at times when the light source is installed in an automobile.
