Geophysical equipment is heavily used in mining, engineering and environment surveys. These are used for mapping or imaging a certain characteristic in a specific location. There are a lot of different kinds and each has its own purpose. In the early 1930s, there were no such tools yet. People had to record data by hand at every location and plotted the map manually. Although they still got the job done, it took lots of effort. The enormous amount of data that needed to be collected required a huge labor force. Aside from the people collecting data, you also needed people to process it. Due to the rigorous tasks, inaccurate data gathering and slow data processing; only a few surveys were completed in those days. These days, the technology is more advanced. Sensors can now pierce denser locations and the tools are more portable. The creation of microchips has also allowed the tools of today to log and process data instantly as it is gathered. One example of geophysical equipment is the electrical resistance meter. They can be considered as ohmmeters that work on soil. It will record the electrical resistance of the ground through the use of metal probes. Ground-penetrating radar is another example. This works by sending an electromagnetic pulse into the ground. If there is an object or a layer with a significant difference in density, it will reflect the signal back up to the device. The device will then be able to process the depth with the use of the transit time. The geophysical equipment of today is really something. They make surveying a lot easier and quicker. The data gathered is sure to be accurate when you use these. If you are not content with the findings of one, you can always find another one that is configured differently. An example is using a four-probe electric resistance meter to cross-check the findings of a two-probe one. Advanced Geosciences. Inc.
