My spouse is preparing to apply for an officer's post through the United States Air Force, and the pair of us couldn't be more thrilled at the prospect. Both my family and his celebrate a military heritage, of which we couldn't be more proud. As an officer's wife, I will also be looking forward to plenty of formal functions. But the more I thought of them, the more I wondered what in the world I would wear, especially because as a Latter-day Saint, I prize modesty in dress and grooming. So what can I do to make sure I have at least a small supply of gorgeous gowns to choose from? This is my strategy. Fortunately for me, I presently live in Utah, so the selection is much wider than it would be elsewhere. To find the most beautiful gowns on a budget, I have made it a priority to search the racks for modest prom dresses after the prom season has ended. Many of them are marked down as clearance items, meaning I get more for less. If you already live outside the mountain West, you can still find delightful yet modest dresses for your upcoming military function by doing a little research on the internet. However, if you go this route when it comes time to purchase, then make sure you read the sizing charts carefully and make your choice based on recent measurements. It would also be wise to find a good seamstress in your area to make any adjustments that may be necessary. If you are a military wife, then you will probably want to pinpoint a company that ships internationally, or try to coordinate with a friend that will remain stateside that can ship for you. Remember to stick to your standards as best you can. Being in a military family means that you need to set an example to those around you!
