Planning a major celebration, whether it's for a birthday, anniversary, or holiday, can be tremendously stressful--which, when you think about it, is completely counterintuitive because the sole point of planning such an event is to bring friends and/or family members together for great company, good eats, and happy memories. What is the solution, then, to this ongoing feeling of being overwhelmed? Well, you first want to consider the scale of your party. If you feel your home would not be adequate for hosting, then you may want to find another affordable venue in the area--one you would not be responsible for cleaning. For example, my church often opens its gymnasium for private parties, as long as both hosts and guests adhere to certain guidelines. Similarly, many apartment, condo, and townhome complexes feature a clubhouse that can be reserved for social events. Sometimes a deposit is required, but barring a major catastrophe, you should get it back after a thorough cleanup. Regardless of the location, you should enlist the help of a caterer for any gathering exceeding 20 expected guests. Because of my yearly Christmas party at my parents' home, I am grateful for catering in Phoenix because many specialists work with area restaurants to deliver a variety of favorite dishes, satisfying virtually every palate. Because of their professionalism, I don't have to worry about purchasing and arranging materials for vegetable trays or petite sandwiches, which ends up being so time consuming, I barely have time to greet my guests, no matter how soon in the day I begin. Instead, I get to spend that time mingling and, what do you know?--celebrating!
