How to Make a Virtual CD-ROM Drive on the Hard Drive A virtual CD-ROM drive is a special type of software program that is designed to read or "mount" CD or DVD image files on your hard drive. Mounting a CD or DVD image file in a virtual drive allows you to browse the image file as if it were a physical disk in a physical drive. Before you do so, however, you must first download and install a program capable of creating a virtual drive. dreambox dm800 Instructions 1 Navigate to a virtual CD-ROM program download page (see Resources for links to two such programs). 2 Click the download link for the program of your choice and save the executable (.exe) file to your hard drive via the on-screen prompts. 3 Launch the file once it has finished downloading. Follow the instructions on-screen to begin the automated installation process. 4 Restart your computer once the process is finished. When your computer reboots, an icon pertaining to the virtual CD-ROM program will be in your Windows yaskbar.dreambox dm8000 5 Right-click the program icon. A pop-up menu appears.
