I can’t sleep. And I blame my old, uncomfortable mattress and rickety bed frame. Well, that and stress. The stress I can’t fix, the bed, I can. However, there are a lot of choices, and I’m not sure which is right for me, so, I’m going to explore a few different types of beds. Let’s start with mattresses. As far as I can tell, there are 4 basic categories mattresses fall under. Innerspring mattresses, which have various types and arrangements of coils; foam mattresses, which can be either latex, or memory foam; gel mattresses; and waterbed bladders. Well, I don’t want to relive the ‘70’s, so, I’m going to eliminate waterbeds right now. That leaves us with spring mattresses, foam, and gel. Innerspring is what I have now, and, while it was affordable and a fairly good mattress when I first got it, once it had been used for a while, the coils got pretty uncomfortable. Gel beds look very comfortable, and I know they are good for your back, but, I’m not sure my bank account would be too happy with me. So, that leaves foam. Latex foam might be pretty good, although the memory foam seems like it might actually be more comfortable. Once I decide on a mattress, I should probably get a better frame. I’ve discovered that, even if you don’t want to invest in an expensive bed set with a fancy headboard, there are some new, easy-to-set-up frames that are quite sturdy and nice to your wallet. But, what if I have medical issues that require an adjustable bed? To be honest, even without medical issues, I would not mind having an adjustable bed . No more precariously propping 5 pillows up behind your head just to try to read a book or watch television. It would also come in handy when you had a head cold and can’t breathe. Hmmmm, frankly, I am pretty sure that anything I decide on will help me sleep better than I am, now. I might even get creative and get a nice, sturdy coil mattress and add a memory foam mattress topper. Or, maybe I will decide to relive the ‘70’s and get a waterbed. Break out the bell-bottoms, honey!
