LA Ink is a spin-off of the TLC reality television series Miami Ink, featuring one of the former cast members from the parent series. Like its predecessor, it features the challenges and everyday work of a tattoo parlor’s resident artists, this time set at the High Voltage Tattoo studio in Los Angeles, California instead. One of the highlights of the show and main experiences of its cast is getting the chance to unleash their artistic magic on high-profile, celebrity guest customers. Among the famous faces to be featured in the new season is actress and rapper Eve, Desperate Housewives cast member Jesse Metcalfe, and rock star Scott Ian. Ian is the wildly energetic rhythm guitarist for the metal band Anthrax, and is the featured celebrity guest customer for September 18. The tattoo that he desires is a homage to fellow rock guitarist Angus Young. Young has performed together with the Australian group AC/DC since the 70s, becoming known for his high energy levels during their gigs and his schoolboy attire onstage, and is one of Ian’s main musical inspirations. Ian says that when he was merely a novice in the world of rock music and attempting to find his own voice and style, he drew on his fandom for Young’s wild behavior. In addition, Ian explained that he wanted to get his tattoo from LA Ink because of series star Kat Von D’s reputation for quality, as well as the reassuring name of their shop, High Voltage Tattoo. He believes that it’s one of the best venues to get an Angus Young tattoo. Ian is also no stranger to television, having appeared on other reality series such as the VH1 show Supergroup, wherein he helped form the band Damnocracy along with other rock star cohorts.
