Disability is not inability. This means that those with special needs should not be treated with contempt or discriminated. They are human and should be treated with equality and respect. They have a right to education like any other person. This education should be from the primary level to the college level. These institutions have been of highly appreciated by the public especially the families of those with disabilities. Colleges for learning disability have benefited the societies in many ways. First and foremost the person in question has access to an education just like any other normal person. This is a basic right that needs that is essential for all despite age, gender or physical condition. These colleges pave the way for a brighter future for these people. They become literate therefore they do not have to be dependents. These institutions are important because they cater for special needs. The teaching staff are aware of the extra attention such students need therefore they are patient with them. Some may be slow and will not understand some of the basics easily. The teachers take time to properly guide these students and lead them to their success. The institutions are also designed in ways that these students will feel comfortable while moving about. This is for instance students on wheelchairs can find it difficult to go up or down a stairway. The school would then design t he place in a way that such students would get to classes easily without struggle or being dependent on their fellow mates. The staff from these institutions is composed of qualified personnel that are well trained to handle students with special cases. They understand the needs for such students and try to incorporate these students into proper learning systems. An example is teachers with the ability to understand sign language in order to assist the deaf and dump. The colleges are not only all about learning. They have extra services whereby they train the students or train them how to fit in the society. They are shown how to become self reliant so as not to feel like parasites to other people. It is thanks to these colleges for learning disabilities that some of great politicians, artists and other famous people have come up. The concept for Beacon was put forth by a group of parents concerned about higher education opportunities for students with learning disabilities. Responding to this concern, the initial trustees founded Beacon College.
