What's a soap opera without the twists and turns? Recently, The Bold and the Beautiful again shocked fans when Eric Forrester, and Donna Logan, the sister of Eric's ex-wife, Brooke, shared a passionate kiss, bringing their relationship to another level. John McCook, who plays Eric Forrester, believes that this new development in his storyline has re-energized his character. McCook said in a conversation with Soap Opera weekly that his character is really enjoying this new phase and that he has realized that there was something missing in his life aside from a warm bed. With that, The Bold and the Beautiful is careful not to make the Eric and Donna romance just all about sex. "It goes way beyond a sexual relationship," John McCook explained. "We keep trying to minimize that, because I don't want Eric to be perceived as just...[out for] sex." He added, "Jennifer [Lynne Gareis], who plays Donna, has also been very wary of playing ‘the sex kitten and the older guy.' Bottom line is, it's going to be written that way, anyway. [But] we want to make this a different relationship. So far, it seems to be going all right." Viewers were quite surprised to see this new pairing, or maybe they missed the hint that was given in the scene wherein Eric bought a drink for Donna at Café Russe. John McCook further explained that it was vital for them to keep sex out of that scene, which was solely about a man and a women talking about the things that were happening around them, instead of them flirting with each other. He added that Gareis initially took part in editing the lines that she was supposed to say, as she disliked the original script. McCook also revealed that he has closed his doors to Stephanie (Susan Flannery), and that he is beginning to let go of his old self. These changes in his character have let McCook to infuse more of himself into his character. "As an actor, what's happening is that, for 20 years, it's been important for me to leave a lot of who I am out of Eric," he explained. "For the first 10 years [I played the] businessman. Not a lot of humor, not a lot of energy, not a lot of joy. My sense of humor and my energy was something that I had to omit. But now I can put more of John into Eric."
