Looking For A Safe Way To Dealing With ADHD Child Problems Without Drugs-

Health,Family & Parenting,Self Improvement
If you are looking for a safe way dealing with ADHD child problems without having to resort to psychostimulant drugs which will put your child on the drugs treadmill for many years to come, read on because there are alternative methods of treating ADHD.

Lots of parents are surprised that their children start to become weepy and lethargic when they were once hyperactive and out of control. This seems to happen to at least 50% of children who are on psychostimulants. That is just one of the effects of the drugs commonly prescribed for ADHD such as Focalin and Concerta. This suppression of symptoms with such powerful mind altering drugs is a cause for alarm.

Peter Breggin reports that the drugs are damaging the delicate brains of children and can only lead to cocaine addiction in later life. He has reviewed the studies done on this in Brain Disabling Treatments in Psychiatry (2nd Edition).

So what is a safe way to dealing with ADHD child problems so that we can help them to learn a few life skills without having to be drugged like a zombie all the time?

The first thing to do is to make sure that children are brought up in an affectionate and caring environment and where the difference between what is acceptable and inappropriate behavior is made clear and the limits are set and also kept.

Very often, as regards giving instructions, parents can rely more on visuals rather than giving long winded instructions when they are rarely taken in. It also helps to have lists, post its, pictures and charts to help the kids with the daily domestic routine.

Observe how your child behaves when distracted and you all soon see that his filters are not operating as they should, so that extraneous and unimportant stimuli are discarded. Very often the child just cannot cope with all the sensory stimuli coming at them and that is why distraction is such a big problem.

But you may see what kind of things distract them and make allowances. Then there is the question of helping him to concentrate and pay attention. There is lots of research to show that having them sit on a stability ball will help him to concentrate. A physical movement or secondary motion will stimulate the brain and that helps the concentration. In this case, the act of having to balance on the ball helps the brains to focus on the other task that they are completing.

There are lots of other ways of dealing with ADHD child problems such as helping them by feeding them properly. If a child has too much sugary, salty and processed foods, he is much more likely to have mood swings which later can flare up into tantrums, outbursts or other unacceptable behavior.

If we feed them with the right mix of a high protein breakfast, more fruit and veg during the day, then we are well on the way to helping their brains function better. The brain needs nutrients and the best ones are the Omega 3 essential fatty acids together with minerals such as magnesium, zinc and calcium.

These then are just some of the ways of dealing with ADHD child problems.

Why not find out more about how much easier you can make your life just by making a few simple changes in your home.

Experts now tell us that natural ADHD treatments . combined with child behavior modification techniques is by far the most effective ADHD treatment. William Colbert has written extensively on ADHD and Mental Health for many years. Check out this site for more parenting and ADHD advice
