Woodchippers and mulchers - invaluable for farm and forest management |

Woodchippers and mulchers are pretty much the same thing, it just depends on the colloquialism one uses; however, for farm and forest/woodland management they are an invaluable tool and one which removes a huge amount of manual work from the task of woodland management, farm husbandry and make seriously light work of clearing tree debris from after storm and/or wind damage. Mulch and chippings which are produced from the process can be used and put directly back on to the land from where that came as in the case of forestry and the subsequent decaying process leaks nutrients back into the ground. Wood mulch and chippings make excellent growth inhibitors; spread around a garden the carpet of mulch and/or chippings can inhibit the growth of weeds and unwanted undergrowth while at the same time as they decay and naturally compost the covering gradually leaks back nutrients back into the garden. Depending on the size of the job undertaken wood chippers and mulchers vary in size considerably; large forestry clearance and maintenance usually requires a heavy duty chipper mounted on the back of a motorised vehicle. Smaller yet equally robust models designed for work in a similar environment are usually mounted on a trailer or axle and are powered by an onboard internal combustion engine or indeed direct from a drive shaft linkage which is usually connected to a tractor or other suitably connected agricultural vehicle. Moving on from there smaller models which are mounted on an axle set up can be towed from one location to another, are uniquely mobile and are often to be seen in use by parks departments and municipal works teams as well as on landed estates, golf and country clubs and generally in on farmland and agricultural businesses as a method of general housekeeping. Woodchippers are typically constructed with a hopper on the side or at the apex of the machine complete with a directional chute from which the by-product of the chipping process is ejected. Depending on their designated end use and area of work some models have removable and/or integral bins for collection of the processed chippings and/or mulch whereas other models are designed for depositing the resulting debris direct into an external bin or collecting tank. Most models have adjustable blade types and variable speeds and are able to produce fine mulch and/or coarse to fine chips depending on the end use specified for the processed debris.
