It has been said, 'a diamond is a girl's best friend', and so every young girl grows up wanting to have one. Whether it is an engagement ring or an heirloom, it holds a very special place in their minds. However, it becomes magnified when you become engaged and your prime concern now becomes how to "choose the perfect diamond for your setting', especially when looking at a bevy of loose diamond . Choosing a setting is not such a formidable task. What makes it undaunting is the magnitude of choices that abound. Every girl can browse settings at her heart's content; it just gets cloudy when she has to make that permanent choice. The more common choice is usually the solitaire setting with baguettes on the sides. After this task, comes the choosing of the main jewel. It is absolutely awesome to see a batch smiling up at you from the jeweler’s desk. They shimmer and shine like sands dancing on the shore after the waves have subsided. It is also a good note to remember the 4Cs when choosing. They are the carat weight, color, clarity, and cut. There is another equally important 'C', it is the certificate. The first thing to consider is the shape. The more common shape is the round brilliant, which unfortunately is also the most expensive and beautiful. The more fancy cuts like the princess, marquise or radiant cut, to name a few, will cost less as they do not take that much work to perfect them like the round cut does. Then one has to decide on the weight. Size isn't everything, but a girl wants her stone to be seen like a quiet storm. The size is better seen in correlation to the clarity. The better clarity will mean not so much emphasis on the size, as it will be seen a mile off because of this clarity. Naturally, all these factors add to the cost. But not to be forgotten is the need to have all these 4Cs documented with a certificate for insurance purposes.
