f you have a roach problem, there are several household products that you can use to trap and kill these pests. Most of the roach home remedies are non-toxic to humans and pets when used appropriately, however, you will still need to take safety precautions such as wearing plastic gloves and a mask when mixing up the more caustic solutions. The best part about roach remedies that are made using household products is that they are inexpensive and easy to make. Boric Acid Roach Spray One of the most effect roach home remedies is a simple boric acid roach spray. To make this anti-roach solution you will need about 2 cups of boric acid, 1/2 gallon of boiling water, a plastic bucket, a plastic spray bottle, a funnel and a long wooden stirring stick. To make the spray, bring the water to a steady boil and stir in the boric acid. Stir the solution until all of the boric acid has been dissolved. Next pour the solution into your plastic spray bottles. Spray the solution along the mopboards and behind the refrigerator, basically anywhere you think roaches may walk. This solution does not store well so you will need to use all of the solution that you create. Boric Acid Roach Powder Another application of boric acid is to use it in its powdered form to kill roaches. For this application all you have to do is sprinkle the boric acid powder where you think that roaches live or move around, such as behind wall panels, near mopboards and under cupboards. Sweet Anti-Roach Recipe If you are nervous about working with boric acid, you can create a sweeter anti-roach recipe. For this recipe you will need equal parts of baking soda and powdered sugar. Mix the two together and dump it into a shallow dish. Then place the dish down where the roaches can eat it. The powdered sugar will attract the roaches and the baking soda will kill the roaches by bloating it with gas. Diatamaceous Earth The use of diatomaceous earth, which is a garden soil additive, is an effective way to get rid of roaches. Diatamaceous earth is actually a compost made from the fossilized remains of small microscopic organisms and shell fragments. This compound is full of very fine, sharp edges that damage the roaches’ exoskeletons. This leads to their eventual dehydration and death. Jar Traps If you don’t want to sprinkle baking soda, diatomaceous earth or boric acid around your house then you have another option for getting rid of roaches using household products. This option utilizes a canning jar and some bait to trap the roaches. To set up this trap you will place a canning jar down on the floor. Inside you will place a piece of fruit or some sugary cereal. This is the bait. Next you will grease the inside of the jar with petroleum jelly, which will prevent the roach from crawling back out of the jar. In the morning all you have to do is dump the roaches in an outside garbage or in your apartment incinerator. For more tips, check the link below: cockroach control northshore
