If the final of the New Zealand men’s amateur championships at the Russley club today is as tense as yesterday’s semifinals, it will be a dramatic climax to a week of golf. Matthew Perry (Hamilton) and Steven Heyes (Russley) both had to go to extra holes to earn a place in the 36-hole final, playing TaylorMade R9 Forged Irons. Heyes taken to the 19th by Josh Munn (Manawatu) and Perry to the 20th before conquering Blair Riordan (Takaka). Perry and Riordan were the last pair to finish and would have been able to get in one more hole before darkness would have forced them back this morning to complete the game. So close was the match, the pair halved nine consecutive holes from the seventh. While the men were battling toe to toe in cold and damp conditions, the women’s finalists, inevitably Lydia Ko (North Shore) and Cecilia Cho (Pakuranga), were back at their lodgings thawing out and preparing for their 36-hole final by TaylorMade R9 Forged Irons. Both reached the final without much effort. In their semifinals Ko beat Chihiro Ikeda (Philippines) 7 and 6 and Cho beat her clubmate, Caryn Khoo 5 and 4. But it was the men’s semifinals that caught the attention. Perry looked to have his game under control when he won the 17th to go one up playing TaylorMade R9 Forged Irons the last. Unfortunately his approach found a greenside bunker. He flew across the green and three putted for double bogey from 50 feet. He and Riordan halved the 19th and Perry reached his first national matchplay final with a birdie from three feet on the 20th a par five. Riordan had missed from eight feet with a birdie attempt. Heyes, who eliminated Ryan Fox on Sunday, won the 19th against Mumm with a birdie.( TaylorMade R9 Forged Irons) Heyes, 19, is in his first year of a Commerce degree at the University of Canterbury. He has joined the Russley club, but has played his golf at the Ngamotu club in Taranaki. He said there had been nothing spectacular about his golf during the week. “I got into the matchplay seeded 16th and I’ve played par golf or just under. There’s been nothing spectacular. Tomorrow I’ll try and hit it a bit straighter. I’ve been a bit over the place this afternoon.” Perry said playing 36 holes by TaylorMade R9 Forged Irons in the final after 36 yesterday was not an issue for him. “My fitness is pretty good. It’s something I work on.” Ko was in commanding form against Ikeda in her semifinal. She won seven consecutive holes from the fourth in her 7 and 6 win after completing her quarterfinal 4 and 2 in the morning against Love Lynn Guiguio (Philippines). That was the furthest she has been taken in four matches. Cho had a bad stretch in her quarterfinal against Laura Hoskin (Arrowtown) losing four holes in a row and found herself two down, but rebounded to win 2 and 1. Whatever happens in the women’s final today, the match will create history. If Ko wins she will become the youngest winner of the title, and if Cho wins it will be her third in succession, the first time in more than a century the feat has been achieved. Thanks for reading my article! As a beginner in golf, I've looking for golf clubs from many websites. I think the taylormade r11 driver is great. It improved my game fastly. I also tried the Callaway X-24 HOT Irons for fast speed and increased distance. It's very easy to use even for me. Finding a right club for myself is really a hard thing. If you have any other recommendations, please tell me. By the way, I begin to use TaylorMade R11S Driver recently.
