What is Your Favourite Traditional Irish Food

Business

Ireland has a food culture all of its own, featuring dishes and recipes that many outside of the country haven't heard of. Many of these recipes are still followed in households, having been passed down through generations of Irish cooks and housewives.

Traditional Irish meat dishes often include pork - for example, bacon and cabbage, black pudding (blood sausage), coddle (consisting of pork sausages, back bacon and potato) and crubeens (pig's trotters).

You also have the traditional potato dishes of boxy (potato cake), champ (mash, scallions, butter and milk) and colcannon (mash, cabbage and butter).

Of course, fresh fish dishes, particularly those including salmon, trout, oysters and mussels are popular, as well as the traditional Irish soda bread. So, what's your favourite Irish dish that's 'just like grandma used to make?'

If you fancy a change however from the bacon and cabbage, why not plan an indulgent meal out? While many of the traditional recipes were designed to cost little to make, there's no need for a special meal out to break the bank either.

Simply head to D3ALS.ie for some amazing meal deals, brought to you by daily deal providers such as Groupon, Pigsback and Living Social. These fantastic offers make eating out affordable for all, so there's no reason not to treat yourself occasionally.

D3ALS.ie is the place on the world wide web to find all of the best daily deals relevant to you, pulled together and displayed in an order of your choosing. It's far more convenient for those who love daily deals than browsing all of the deals websites individually, and you can even subscribe to the D3ALS email service for even more convenience.

You'll find meal deals on every type of cuisine at D3ALS, except perhaps crubeens (pig's trotters) and skirts and kidneys (stew). Whet your appetite for meals out with these examples of recent daily deals offered at fantastic discounts:

Two Course Italian Meal for Two with Glass of Wine at Little Venice, Dublin

This deal from Groupon was offered for a popular Italian restaurant near the centre of Dublin, housed in the delightful surroundings of an old coaching inn. With free on-site parking, Little Venice is a convenient option, and the offer included a meal for two, plus glass of wine each for just €25 (representing a discount of 55 per cent).

Italian is one of the most popular cuisines in the world, with a reputation for the best pizza and pasta dishes. With this deal you could sample a traditional Italian menu including bruschetta, minestrone soup and pollo frittas to start, followed by a main course choice of the restaurant's pizza, pasta or meat dishes.

A fantastic option for romantic meals out, a meal at Little Venice would surely inject some 'amore' into your evening.

Half Price on Delicious Thai Food and Drink at Lan Tania Thai, Maynooth

This deal brought by The Mega Deal, Pigsback, has recently come back by popular demand. Perfect for lovers of delicious thai cuisine it consists of a €40 voucher for just €20 - so you're getting your meal at half price!

Located in Maynooth, Kildare, Lan Tania Thai is a traditional Thai and Asian restaurant which blends the finest Irish produce with the exotic spices and flavours of the East. Holders of these vouchers get to enjoy authentic Oriental dishes, with a Western spin, within an opulent red and gold decorated restaurant.

Delicious Three Course Meal for Two for Just €25 Instead of €75 at Taste of Everest, Dublin

Indian food is always a popular choice, but if you fancy a slight change that still includes the flavours of your Indian favourites, this deal allowed lovers of spice to enjoy delicious authentic Nepalese cuisine in one of Dublin's finest Nepalese restaurants.

In a central location just off of St Stephen's Green, this deal included two starters, two mains, two deserts and rice or naan bread, so you'll have everything you need for a delicious feast in a convenient location.

Whichever traditional Irish dish represents the taste of home for you, it's always nice to have a change. If you're fancying something different then head to D3ALS.ie for the best meal deals in Dublin, and Ireland-wide. The only difficulty will be deciding which delicious cuisine to go for, as there are so many great deals available that it's easy to be spoilt for choice. That and deciding who to take with you as your 'plus one'!
