MIAMI, Florida - March 5, 2012. ISO 17025-accredited Beta Analytic invites participants of the 6th Global Alternative Fuels Conference for Cement and Lime to visit Booth #19 during the two-day event currently underway in Aachen, Germany. Company representatives Martin Tesini and Dominik Baust will be glad to respond to inquiries on the laboratory's services and renewable carbon testing. This year's conference is held at the Hotel Pullman Quellenhof from March 5 to March 6, 2012. "Our main goal as an exhibitor is not only to promote the laboratory's capabilities but also to highlight the advantages and benefits of renewable carbon testing to cement and lime manufacturers. There are three standard methods that can be used to measure renewable carbon content - ASTM D6866, CEN 15747, and EN 15440. These methods involve radiocarbon measurement. As the world's largest professional radiocarbon testing lab, we have the experience and the expertise for renewable carbon analysis," Mr. Tesini says. The conference started with keynote presentations by Jean-Marie Chandelle of Cembureau, Jan Theulen of HeidelbergCement, and Ed Verhamme of Alternate Resource Partners. On the second day of the conference, an expert panel chaired by Tom Lowes welcomes all questions on alternative fuels and raw materials (AFR). Aside from Mr. Theulen, the other panel members are Luiz Carlos de Sousa of Holcim and Lawrie Evans of Italcementi. A visit to HeidelbergCement's ENCI plant is slated for March 7. Beta Analytic has participated in previous Global Fuel Conferences held in North America and Asia. Beta Analytic Director Thierry Tamers took charge of the company’s exhibit at the 2011 conference in Washington, D.C. The company joins the Global Fuels conferences in an effort to to inform cement producers of the benefits of renewable carbon testing via ASTM D6866, CEN 15747, or EN 15440. These standard methods accurately quantify the percentage of alternative fuels that come from biomass. Many cement producers do not know the true renewable carbon content of the alternative fuels they are using. Used tires and municipal solid waste have a considerable biomass component, thus their combustion emissions are not 100% fossil. On the other hand, sewage sludge and demolition wood are not 100% biomass. These fuels' combustion emissions, therefore, cannot be considered as 100% carbon-neutral. Shampoos and detergents that enter the waste stream add fossil carbon in sewage sludge. Petroleum-based adhesives and paints contribute to the fossil component of demolition wood.
