Many years ago at the end of one my very infrequent golf lessons, I asked the instructor how to move hit a fade shot. He was a certified PGA teaching professional so I was pretty sure he would be able to give me correct information. It turns out that his method was the easiest I have ever heard, even today if I search online, read books and articles by the swing guru’s, I cannot find a method this easy to understand and execute. Before we get to the method, let’s explore why you might want to hit a fade and exactly what the fade shot in golf is. When you might want to hit a fade; If you the natural shape of the hole calls for a shot that starts left but curves to the right. Maybe you are in the fairway or light rough with a tree in your line of flight, curving your shot around the tree might be an option. The flagstick is to right side of the green. Starting your ball toward the middle of the green, and then having it make a controlled curve to the right could put you safely closer to the pin. What exactly is a fade shot? Like a slice, the flight path of a fade (for a right handed swing) starts to the left and curves to the right. Unlike a slice, which is an unintended ball flight, the fade is a very controlled ball flight. Highly skilled ball strikers can very precisely control the degree of movement. Hitting this and many other golf shots used to shape ball flight really only require a couple of minimal set up changes, and then your normal full golf swing. The easy method; First set the club face behind the ball aimed directly at where you want the ball to end up. Now take your normal stance aimed parallel to the target line, without moving the club face open your stance by moving your lead foot back slightly, match your toe line to the path you want the ball to start on, align your body on the same line and make your normal full golf swing as if this was your target. After being shown this method, I only had to hit a few balls, before I was able to move a 5 iron to the right at will and control how much by about 5 yard increments. Many of the methods I have seen discussed call for opening the club face, changing your swing plane, delaying your release etc, not that these suggestions are completely wrong, but this method has fewer steps, is very accurate, and is easy to learn and remember. When you aimed your club face where you want the ball to go, and not moved it as you opened your stance, you really opened the club face slightly. By matching your body alignment the starting flight path you negate the need to make swing adjustments. Love golf from my childhood. Do you know any top golf clubs for me? I'm using taylormade r11 driver now, and it's great. European Tour Golf Clubs Greg Chalmers
