Avoid being ripped off.... There are two types of scams and most people fall for the first type which is based on you thinking you get something very cheap or free. The second type works on the basis of pulling at your heart strings and expecting you to feel so sorry for the other person that you do not stop and think and just give. Such as the email I received purporting to be from a church in Africa and stating they are desperate for hundreds of new bibles and need me to urgently send my money to them to pay for them. I sent them a quick email telling them not to worry as I have bought hundreds of bibles and they are on their way. The first type of scam is the one we are concentrating on now because it is the one we usually come across and fall for. A lady I used to know fell for such a scam with her own son! She needed her front room to be decorated and she was loath to pay a professional decorator the £600 he wanted for doing a PROPER job. Not only would it have been a proper job but a quick job. So instead she listened to her son, who she knew was terrible with money and lazy and she promised to pay him £50 a day if he does it instead. He had no experience of decorating and could not even be bothered to get out of bed before noon most days. Yet she still employed him at £50 a day to do this work. You can guess the outcome can you not? He would either turn up at about 3 pm and then do about half an hour for £50 or turn up and sit around watching television and chatting and still ask for the money. He also did a terrible job. It would have worked out cheaper and quicker for her to pay the professional. If we are realistic about what to expect from others and what to pay for something we cannot be conned in this way. Just imagine that YOU are the professional decorator. No reputable professional who has a lot of clients is going to do so much work well for less than £600. They would be stupid to and they could not afford to. This woman did not allow for how much it costs for the decorator to run their business or that they need money to live on. She resented the £600 so much that she ended up paying more for a terrible job and now the room has to be done again by a professional anyway! Likewise, the same woman has a habit of going searching for psychic readings and will go anywhere where it is free or very cheap. Yet it has not occurred to her that she has had dozens of free and cheap "readings" and they have all been a lot of rubbish. She would have been far better off going to one reputable place where it is guaranteed to be good and where she can trust what they say. Yes it would not be free or cheap. But it would be worth listening to. Such a place is here at http://www.askagonyauntsadviceonline.com.
