You have got to be prepared to live with little access to money, banks, gas, electricity and anything else you take for granted in your daily life. What about shelter? If you own your house and already live off the land, great! For those of you who do not, you will want to start thinking about working toward that goal. Shelter You need to have the supplies necessary to survive during the economic collapse. This might mean living outside what used to be your home. If you rent, you will likely have no control over what happens to your housing situation. Gather supplies to survive in nature. It is also possible that you have friends or family members who are willing to house you and your family. Hopefully that will still be a viable option after the coming economic collapse. Be prepared to contribute to the household. If you do end up living outdoors, you will need some very basic supplies. • A tent or other portable housing
• All weather sleeping bags
• Rain gear
• A way to collect water
• Basic food supplies
Alternative Power Think about everything you use in a day that is powered by the “grid”. Your telephones, electricity and water supply all depend on an economy that is running smoothly. Get involved in your home’s power supply and create self-sustaining and unlimited resources for yourself. • Install solar panels for free and unlimited electricity
• Install a water filtration system and a solar water heater
• Buy a solar or crank powered radio so you know what is going on in your area
If you do not have the ability to install solar panels because you rent, you will want the necessities. The basics you need include a cooking stove that is heated with wood or propane, lanterns or flashlights and reliable communication equipment. Know where you are If the coming economic collapse happens due to a major natural disaster, landmarks you know may disappear. You may not be able to get to small tools necessary to your survival. Things to have on hand: • A compass and both street and terrain maps of the surrounding areas
• Sturdy and comfortable hiking boots or shoes
• A Swiss Army knife – reliable in any situation for almost any need.
These items are all basic. Remember that shelter, power and knowing how to get places are imperative to your survival.
