List of Possible Mixtures for Making Home Made Carpet Cleaners

Home Improvement,Health,Family & Parenting
A clean and fresh carpet can lend a look of sophistication and elegance to your home. But this important part of home décor often looks worn out due to lack of proper care and maintenance, and this can ruin the beauty of your house. So proper cleaning and maintenance is very important and we often use expensive commercial cleaners to serve this purpose. Most of these cleaners contain many chemicals and some of them can be potentially harmful for the health of your children and pets. So it is not a bad idea to try some homemade carpet cleaners, which are equally effective in cleaning and removing odor from your carpet. Besides these, they are quite inexpensive and environmental friendly. So let's try these carpet cleaners that can be made from normal household products and can also be applied easily.

Homemade Carpet Cleaners

Vinegar and Water Some of the most effective carpet cleaners are present right in our homes, but we aren't aware of them. Such a product is vinegar, that contains acetic acid for which it is ideal for cleaning as well removing bad odor from your carpet. For cleaning any kind of stain, just mix white vinegar with water and then apply it on the stain with a soft brush or sponge and let it dry completely. Once the vinegar and water mixture has dried out completely, vacuum the carpet and you will notice that the stain will completely disappear. Vinegar can also be used for machine cleaning. Just add some vinegar and water into the machine for cleaning any type of carpet.

Vinegar and Detergent White vinegar can be used in another way for carpet cleaning. Make a solution by using equal parts of white vinegar, a mild liquid detergent and warm or lukewarm water. Mix all the ingredients properly and then use a brush for application on the stained area of the carpet. Let it stay for sometime, after which it can be rinsed with a damp cloth. For tough stains, repeated application may be required.

Borax, Vinegar and Salt Some stains can be really stubborn and vinegar alone may not help in carpet stain removal. For such stains, vinegar will need the help of other substances like salt and borax. Mix equal parts of salt, borax and vinegar to make a thick paste. Then apply on the stained area and let it dry, after which it can be removed using a vacuum cleaner. For ink stains, cream of tartar is very effective. Also add a few drops of lemon juice to it and apply on the stain. Once the paste dries, vacuum the carpet.

Ammonia and Detergent Ammonia is a strong cleaner and can be used for carpet cleaning in combination with liquid soap and detergent. But always wear protective gloves while applying ammonia on anything. Now prepare a solution of liquid soap, preferably vegetable oil based, any mild laundry detergent and ammonia. This mixture can be used for both manual and machine cleaning.

Baking Soda and Essential Oils For eliminating bad smells or odors, especially of pets, you can try using baking soda and essential oils. Mix both the products and then sprinkle on the carpet. Let it stay for about 20 to 30 minutes and then vacuum.

Baking Soda, Cornflour and Bay Leaves Baking soda can also be used for carpet cleaning along with cornflour and bay leaves. Potpourri can also be added with this mixture for deodorizing your carpet. Scramble the bay leaves before adding to the mixture of cornflour and baking powder. Leave the powder on your carpet for a whole night and then remove it the next morning. Now vacuum the carpet.

For daily carpet cleaning, use a vacuum cleaner without the beater bar attachment, as it can weaken and damage the fibers. Always make sure you clean both solid and liquid spills immediately from the carpets, otherwise stains will set on the fibers and such stains are really hard to clean. Do not scrub your carpet while cleaning. If you clean your carpet with water, remember to dry it completely, otherwise development of mildew and mold is inevitable. Before using a cleaning product, commercial or homemade, try it on a small, inconspicuous area to avoid any possible damage. If the homemade and commercial cleaners fail to remove tough stains, you can avail commercial carpet cleaning services provided by professionals.
