More often than not, fans accuse their favorite artists for a substandard performance, which is basically composed of lip synching and perhaps, body doubling. Surely, these artists are still human, and they have their flaws. Unfortunately, some artists have been caught dead lip synching, such as Ashlee Simpson (who used to have a throat sickness, and thus may be reasonable?) and Britney Spears. Hillary Duff even commented in a 2005 MTV interview, "I don't think that I 100 percent disagree with lip-synching. When you're Britney Spears and you're dancing a perfect choreographed show and you're changing outfits nine times, then it becomes not so much about the music." Sure, maybe it is allowable for Britney to lip synch, if she performs well. That wasn't the case in last years MTV VMAs, as she gave an awful and ridiculous performance in which--you guessed it--she was lip synching. This 2008, Miley Cyrus herself, the golden girl of teen pop has fallen under the category of substandard as she allegedly used a body double. OK! Magazine quickly reported on the Hannah Montana body double scandal. The magazine reported that at a recent performance on her Best of Both Worlds Tour, fans were puzzled to see a girl looking like Miley Cyrus, wearing the exact same costume, pretending to be singing the current song that was being performed. Miley was singing and dancing when her dancers surrounded her and covered her with a black cloth while she escaped through a trap door for a quick costume change. This was when the Miley impostor appeared to the fans for a couple of minutes. When she exited, the real Miley Cyrus came back with her costume changed. This issue has been met with various reactions, with some understanding the plight of having to change costumes in a very limited time. Others, however, did not appreciate this, saying that the performance tried to fool fans into thinking that it was Miley herself all along. The double was lip synching and the whole time she was there, thus leaving fans confused and angry. "I paid good money to see the concert," a fan told OK! Magazine. "I was disappointed and I felt like I was played for a fool." Miley's reps are still to comment on this issue.
