In this self-mastery mentoring blog, let's explore "It don't feel so good when I fall short in the self-control department." "My self-esteem sinks real low when I don't follow through on the promises I make, especially to myself. And I share that in this self-leadership mentoring blog, because I like to know if any of you can relate to feeling bad about yourself when you break your promises to yourself and succumb to temptations" Although today was a good day for me in terms of building my self-discipline muscle, as I followed through on my promise to exercise spiritually, mentally and physically and write my daily blog; however, the past few days I didn't like myself, because I fell through on the day-to-day disciplines that I promised myself to work on. To be honest, I didn't even write my daily personal development coaching blog, because there wasn't any good news to share. But then I said to myself: "isn't that the whole purpose of writing this blog -- to relate our personal development mentoring experiences, both good and bad, when we're on or off? Isn't it stronger to relate what went wrong so that we can learn from it and grow? I believe we learn more from our failures than we do from our successes. In fact, it was the exceptional expert and mentor on leadership, Dr. John Maxwell, who said in his classic book, "21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership," if you want to know about his successes, he can tell you that in a day, but if you want to know about his failures, it would take a week. He added that the majority of the lessons he learned and teach about leadership came from his failures rather than his successes. So why should I not talk about my defeats with you when opportunities to accept and grow from your experiences may come from it. "That is why it is so pivotal for you to talk about your thoughts, ideas and comments on this self-leadership coaching meeting." Why did I fail to live up to my expectations these past various days? We can get back to the "why," in our next self-mastery coaching blog, because I want to get back to how bad I felt when I dropped the ball on my self-control production. SELF-ESTEEM A KEY TO self-development AND VISA VERSA This is essential because you may agree that when we feel bad about ourselves, about our failures, and our self-esteem is low, that tend to lead to low self-confidence and self-belief that we can achieve the potential we set for ourselves. John Maxwell also said that he never met a person how succeeded without belief in himself. So its like a hamster on a wheel, a self-fulling prophecy -- we fall short, beat ourselves up about it, lose confidence we can do it, so we get stuck on fear of failure. How do we break this cycle? The Power Coach, Madeline Alexander, has suggested the following: *Don't postpone until tomorrow what you can do today, because we just threw that task in the garbage, since we can not foresee what tomorrow will bring. *Plan your day the night before so you can get right to work, but schedule your fundamental priorities first thing in the morning before the day gets away from you, and *In case emergencies, obstacles or distractions upset your planning, make sure you still spend a little time on your bottom line priorities before you go to bed, even if its just for 10-15 minutes, so that you can fall asleep feeling good that you fulfilled your promise to yourself. This also gets you in the habit of succeeding, despite everyday distractions that are sure to come. Finally, I would like to close today's self-mastery mentoring meeting with something that John Maxwell shared today in his "A Minute with Maxwell" day-to-day motivational video -- Self-esteem puts a Lid on your Leadership. If our self-esteem is low, our self-leadership will be low, and if we aren't able to uplift our self-esteem, how can we inspire or lead others.
