Arachnophobia is the fear of spiders. Not just a fear but a completely irrational, panic inducing, overwhelming fear. Arachnophobia is one of the most common of all the phobias in the entire world. No one understands why people develop arachnophobia but it is estimated that in Western society, 55% of women and 18% of men suffer from this fear. Symptoms of arachnophobia differ based on the individual. Phobia sufferers understand that their actions are irrational but their subconscious mind overwhelms all attempts at conscious rationality when confronted with their fear. Upon seeing a spider, arachnophobia victims have been known to suffer extreme panic attacks, including having difficulty breathing or experiencing profuse sweating. Arachnophobia sufferers frequently begin screaming or crying when confronted with a spider, and some even experience dangerous heart problems. The most extreme arachnophobia victims may even react in such adverse cases to photographs of spiders. Some sufferers are driven to obsessively insure their surroundings are spider-free in order to relax for any length of time. Suffering from arachnophobia can overwhelm a person's social life. Victims might be afraid to spend time in unfamiliar surroundings for fear of coming in contact with spiders. Some arachnophobia sufferers may find themselves unable to enjoy a hike through the woods, or unable to go to public gatherings, petrified by the idea of seeing or accidentally walking into a spider web. Those dark corners of strange rooms could bear untold horrors that the arachnophobia victim dreads to even witness from a distance. Some sufferers could prove to be a danger to themselves or others. The arachnophobia victim might be confronted with a spider crawling across the outside of a windshield while driving. This could cause some sufferers to panic so severely that they may drive erratically. Others may endanger themselves in the sheer amount of drastic steps they take while trying to kill a spider that has been spotted. Accidental poisoning could occur during the panic caused when trying to kill a stray spider. The electrical bug zapper systems that can be placed in order to electrocute any spider that crosses them could accidentally injure the arachnophobia sufferer or a beloved pet. The possible embarrassment factor for arachnophobia victims is high, those who do not experience such extreme fears will not be able to understand why the sufferer needs assistance in killing a spider lurking above the sink. If these symptoms describe you or someone you know, assistance is available in the form of hypnotherapy. Hypnotherapy consists of using a hypnotist to assist in behavioural changes. Phobia hypnotherapy works by allowing the patient to bypass the panic caused by the conscious mind. The subconscious part of the mind is where the phobia actually exists; causing the irrational fear response that overwhelms the conscious minds of sufferers. Hypnotherapy guides the patient into a trance state, where awareness is lowered and focus is directed inward to the subconscious level. The panic tendencies of the conscious, working mind are temporarily bypassed. The hypnotherapy permits the arachnophobia sufferer to finally think without the conscious panic overwhelming their mind and body. In the trance state, the subconscious fear can be traced to its roots and dealt with (usually some traumatic experience in childhood), resulting in true changes being accomplished and relief finally brought to the sufferer of arachnophobia, permanently. Seek an experienced hypnotherapist and set yourself free from this paralysing phobia. You'll be enormously glad you took that step to change your life for the better.
