How to Know the Severity of Flea Bite Infection

Health,Family & Parenting,Environment
People who do not expect flea infestation often think of flea bites as something else such as mosquito bites. Some may think of flea bites as heat rash. To determine if you are bitten by fleas, you must learn about the symptoms of flea bites on humans. To be able to deal with fleas, you must learn a little about their background.

Fleas can be found in almost anywhere and these annoying parasites can be distinctively irritating. Fleas are blood-sucking parasites that feed on both animal and human blood. Most people do not expect flea infestation when they do not own pets at home, though fleas can get into your home even without animals around. These parasites can exist in almost any part of your home including furniture and floor coverings.

Typically, fleas are widespread when the weather is warm and humid. Fleas can generally survive for several months even after the warm and humid season. During their pupa stage, these blood-sucking creatures can remain dormant. When the pupa develops, sudden flea outbreak occurs. This often happens when a home was previously infested by fleas.

If you are a dog lover than chances are you have felt the sting of a flea bite or hundreds of flea bites. Just like it’s uncomfortable for the dog, it’s extremely uncomfortable to have flea bites on humans. There are many symptoms of flea bites on humans. The first symptom you will typically notice is the itching.

Flea bites on humans will generally start on the ankles and legs. The fleas get into the carpeting of your home and can jump fourteen to sixteen inches to bite your legs and ankles. Like most insect bite reactions, the itching is caused by an allergic reaction. In addition to the itching, you will notice the insect bite rash. If you look at the flea bites, you will notice a red “halo”. In the center will be a small hole in the skin. This is where the flea sucks out the blood.

If the rash remains untreated, you may spread bacteria to other parts of your body. The more you itch, the rougher the skin will become until it will be cracked. When the skill is cracked, bacteria will get into the bite and get infected. With any insect bite, insect bites identification is very important. While similar to the appearance of fleas, bed bug symptoms are very similar to flea bites. With a bed bug bite, you will also see the red “halo” type bite with a hole in the center. Because of these similarities you want to identify the bite and treat it so that you do not run the risk of infections.

The best way to get rid of flea bites on humans is to first take the cat or dog to the vet for a flea treatment. Next you will want to also treat your home by getting bug bombs. These are set off in the house, while it is vacated. After several hours it is safe to reenter the home. Upon reentering the home you will want to wash down all your counters and cupboards and vacuum your carpets. This should remove any evidence of fleas in your home.
