Most 18-volt tool batteries are made up of 15-nickel cadmium (NiCad) or nickel metal hydride (NiMH) cells wired in series, with each cell producing 1.2 volts. When charging your 18-volt tool battery, ensure that you are using a charger that is compatible with the type of cells in the battery, as using the wrong charger could cause damage. The type of cells in your battery is clearly labeled on the battery pack. Connect the input jack from your charger to the 18-volt tool battery. Some tool batteries need to be removed from the tool before recharging; others remain in the tool. Set the charger to the correct charge rate for your Dewalt DCB200 tool battery, if it's a variable rate charger. This needs to be set at 18 volts. Do not set it any higher as the battery will be damaged. Plug in the charger to the electricity supply and then turn the charger on. It will indicate that it's charging, and if it has a meter, it will tell you the charge rate. Make sure it's not higher than 18 volts. Let your 18-volt tool battery charge for a few hours, or until a light illuminates telling you the battery is charged. Sometimes a light is on while charging, then goes off once the tool battery is completely charged. If you have a meter, your Dewalt DCB204 drill battery is charged once the charge rate has fallen to less than 6 volts. Unplug the tool battery charger from the electricity supply. Remove the jack from the battery. Save an 18V Ryobi Battery Saving any type of battery requires properly maintaining, using and storing the battery in an appropriate location when not in use. This will notably extend the life of any Dewalt DCB205 battery, including the 18 volt Ryobi batteries generally used in conjunction with Ryobi cordless power tools. Failing to fully charge your batteries before use, overcharging, or storing your batteries for a prolonged period fully charged will all shorten a battery's life. Insert the 18 volt Ryobi battery firmly into its associated charger when you are ready to use it. Plug the charger into an electrical outlet and let the battery charge for at least one hour. Take the battery out of its charger only when it is fully charged. The indicator light on the charger will turn from red to green once the battery is ready (depending upon the model). Partially charging batteries before use on a repeated basis will shorten the battery life. Operate your Ryobi power tools on lower power settings when possible so as not to drain all of the battery's power. Turn off the Ryobi cordless power tool you are using as soon as you have finished your job in to further preserve the battery. Remove the 18 volt Ryobi battery from its associated power tool when you wish to store it. Place the battery in a location where it will be out of direct sunlight and where it will be stored at a temperature below 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Storing at the correct temperature will help save the battery. When storing your Dewalt DCB206 battery, you need to make sure the storage area is not too humid. Do not charge the Ryobi battery before storing it for more than 30 days.
