Focus on the quality of your life and stop worrying about statistics. Your age, weight, and height are all just numbers, so let your doctor fret about them. Dwelling on age, weight and looks can make you miss out on important events and opportunities. Quality of life is more important than anything your doctor may tell you. If eventually you find that your doctor was correct and your quality of life is declining, then it's always possible to seek out a natural remedy for whatever ails you; does that mean you won't have to involve yourself with the medical system? No, not necessarily, but there are many accounts of people with serious problems that claim to have found a natural remedy, and I believe it's worth a shot. Remember, as you age and become older, especially beyond 65, you will become more suseptable to adverse effects of manufactured medications and if surgery is involved, recovery time is longer and keep in mind that some elements of surgical procedures such as anesthesia, can produce profoundly adverse reactions in older people. Just a little personal story regarding my wife's experience: My wife had polio at the young age of two, which left her right leg shorter than the other. The medical staff at that time, had somehow stretched that leg so that it was reasonably close the the length of the other, but fourteen years into our marriage at age 69 it caught up with her. The leg was again beginning to get shorter as time ensued. She was scheduled for (right) hip replacement surgery in March of 2011. After the surgery she spent five days in the hospital being cathed every six hours and that spilled over to her susequent rehab stay. She had become a different person than I had known during the preceding fourteen years of our marriage; her personality/character was markedly different, exhibiting symptoms of dementia, speech difficulty (aphasia), hallucinations, nervousness, and around ten other adverse symptoms. This is a very long story, and I need to shorten it considerably, in the interest of holding your attention. My wife had been a long term (60 years) professional cellist; now at her request that has ended. Aside from her surgical hospital stay, she was in rehab two different times, another hospital with UTI on IV drip for six days, two months in a psych/med hospital ward with profound catatonia, among other serious symptoms. I had from the beginning suspected a reaction to anesthesia, but everytime I brought it up before a doctor, the answer would be "Well, it should be out of her system by now!"; they were correct, but it didn't leave her system before it had affected her mind in such a way as I suspect LSD may have worked its mind altering deed. My wife finally recovered but it required twelve ECT (Electro Convulsive Therapy) sessions to effect that recovery. The medical system didn't know if that would succeed, as it works on some patients but not on others and they didn't know what, if any effect, the anesthesia may have on her, but thankfully, she recovered. I researched the surgical reports from both operations that she had: (1) hip replacement (2) single eye cataract, and found that she had been given an anesthesia called Fentanyl in both cases; I matched her up with fourteen of the twenty/four different adverse effects listed, which was pretty telling; since that discovery, I have filed a report with the FDA regarding this incident and have requested removal of Fentanyl as an anesthesia agent. My wife may have been more sensitive to the anesthesia because of her somewhat advanced age. She only remembers some, but not much of what happened to her from March through December of last year (2011). This story is not meant to alarm, rather to enlighten you, to one of the pitfalls of aging. Taking care of your skin can greatly slow the aging process. If you are young, avoid spending too much time in the sun. Sunlight has UV rays that can damage your skin. Prolonged sun exposure causes premature aging and creates a much greater risk of developing skin cancer. When caring for an elderly loved one, it may be impossible to be there for them at all times. If you need a break, try adult daycare. Your loved one can have a day or a few hours away in a fun, friendly atmosphere while you get important things done! Always try to learn something new; this will contribute towards positive physical and mental health. The willingness to learn is important at any age. Consider trying injection therapy! Injection therapy is a newer, quite effective way to treat wrinkles. These injections act to relax the facial muscles that are responsible for the appearance of facial wrinkles. As opposed to surgical interventions, injection treatments are widely believed to be quite safe. The only major drawback is that injection therapy may require multiple treatments for full effectiveness. Life is a journey that should be explored and enjoyed. If you set goals for yourself, you'll feel a sense of accomplishment after you reach those goals and have a higher quality of life overall. Before taking any anti-aging supplements, consult your physician to ensure that they won't interact with any medications you are taking and that will be beneficial to you. You need to include a balanced regimen of multivitamins, antioxidants and perhaps anti-inflammatory medicines. Taking these will allow you to have increased activity and less down time due to issues with aging. Make sure you incorporate this task into your daily plan. Every time you take a trip to the grocery store, you should go there with a healthy mindset. The healthy foods in the store can be powerful when it comes to helping you age gracefully. If you make smart choices and choose healthy foods instead of junk food, you will feel better and live a longer life. As you age, you may experience a drop in your sex drive. This can be very disheartening to you or your spouse. Seek medical advice if you are female and a loss of sexual urge has happened to you. You might just need some hormone therapy to get a better sex life and keep your relationship going strong. There are many things that affect aging besides luck and genes. It is also not always a "walk in the park". Staying healthy takes perseverance and work.
