Uniqueness of carpet tiles is that, if there is a stubborn stain on a particular carpet tile, you can remove that particular tile and install a new one. Carpet Tile Installation Instructions Carpet tile installation methods can vary according to the type of carpet tiles you have bought. Usually they are available in two types - one is dry-backed which requires special adhesive for installation while the other is self-sticking which can be laid directly. Before buying carpet tiles measure the area of the room, according to which the carpet tile provider will tell you the number of tiles that would be required. Carpet tiles are usually available in 18 x 18 inch size. You must purchase an extra set of tiles for replacement, in case of stains or damage to the floor. For carpet tile installation you will require large sharp cutting scissors, chalk line, measuring tape, carpenter's square and double-sided carpet tape. After gathering all these tools you can start with carpet tile installation process by following the steps given below. Step 1 - Clean the floor The first step will be cleaning the floor where the carpet tiles have to be installed. So clean and vacuum the floor to remove all dirt and debris. Also remove the old carpets and rugs from the room. Move the furniture and other objects to another room. Step 2 - Find the Center This is the most important step because while installing tiles a major question that arises regarding the start of the installation process. For this reason determining the exact center of your room is essential. For doing this, mark the center of each of the walls by measuring each of the walls in the room and dividing it by two. Now, using a chalk line, draw out a line from the center mark of each wall to find the meeting point at the center of the room. This point will act as a starting point for your carpet tile installation. Step 3 - Place the Tiles After locating the center of the room, placing the tiles is easy. You need to place the first carpet tile on the meeting point of the two lines, also make sure that the tile is placed evenly on both the lines. For dry-backed carpet tiles, first lay the double-sided carpet tape along the chalk lines and around the perimeter of the room. For the self sticking ones do not remove the paper backing of the adhesive, first check the alignment. Place all the tiles along the chalk lines that run from center to center. Make sure they are fitted tightly together, according to the arrows that are marked on the back side of the tiles to indicate the direction of the tile layout. Ensure that the edges of the tiles are aligned, adjacent to one another without spaces in between. You can keep laying the tiles in the same direction, ensuring that the pattern is maintained till you reach the last carpet tile. Step 4 - Fitting the Edges For fitting the tiles at the edges, you will have to cut the tiles. For doing this, turn the carpet tile upside down and place it underneath the last, whole tile, in the row. After this, mark the line where the last tile ends. Cut the carpet square with the scissors or utility knife. Also use a carpenter's square for maintaining a straight line while cutting. Step 5 - Remove Paper Backing After you are satisfied with the alignment and the pattern of the tiles you can remove the paper from the adhesive at the back of the tiles and also the double-sided carpet tape and start sticking the tiles to the floor.
