A logging company is one of the most challenging businesses to operate in commercial markets around the globe. It must be run in a steady manner in order to yield a positive outcome; it must be fiscally stable in the midst of a constant fluctuating market, sky-rocketing operating costs, decreasing profits and dynamic regulations. Making the right selection of forestry trucks is essential to build, maintain and manage a logging business to be more efficient and productive. Initial Requirements There is a lot of money to be made in the timber industry; however, prior to beginning operations it is essential to have adequate knowledge and experience in forestry management while ensuring legitimacy by securing proper contracts, licenses and permits. Equipment - Many different types of forestry trucks will be required for logging, such as feller-bunchers, forwarders, de-limbers, harvesters, chippers and trailers to name a few. It will all be used for the cutting, harvesting and transporting of various kinds of trees. Research - Market research must be conducted regarding: financial projections and long-term predictions; alternative uses for trees; and familiarity with current safety regulations and standards. Marketing Plan - A comprehensive marketing plan must be drawn up to summarize objectives, identify target markets and determine technical and financial requirements. All of this is to gauge the future of a business and how to best monitor the latest industry trends. Transportation In the past, timber companies had different tree-processing methods. Tree harvesting was usually done by fellers and buckers through the use of a felling ax. Transportation was done by: log driving or timber rafting through huge bodies of water; the use of donkeys; and the use of cable lines or the railroad. These methods were very time-consuming, costly, and dangerous. With the technological evolution of transportation, productive logging is now performed through the use of various forestry trucks. Lumberjack harvesters do all the cutting, delimbing and buckling of the trees which are then transported to the landing by equipment known as forwarders or skidders. From the landing, the felled logs are taken to the mills by means of trailers. Improved technology in the timber industry has increased both the efficiency and the harvesting rate by using these heavy-duty machines to perform almost any task, regardless of environmental conditions. This logging equipment is very effective while being versatile enough to be used on moderately steep terrain. The logging industry is very large and very demanding yet has improved substantially throughout the years, now offering an opportunity for a very successful business with diligent efforts. Although the industry has been traumatized by economic conditions, it continues to rise with the help of great forestry trucks. The success of building a logging business depends on the ability to utilize new technology in order to increase safety, efficiency and production levels. Forestry trucks are essential technology in this industry in order to achieve great success and meet desired goals. Having the right forestry equipment to escalate productivity and efficiency is indeed the beginning of a great logging endeavor! Christopher M. Hunter is an expert in commercial specialty trucks.
