Rock Salt Considered as Alternative Cleaner for Glass Shower Doors

Home Improvement,Fashion & Cosmetics,Health
We all enjoy our showers, after which we come out squeaky clean. However, in this process of cleansing ourselves, the shower doors often get soiled with soap scum. Renovating the bathroom to have a sparkling shine only lasts for a few days. After some days, the luster is buried behind the soap scum, which is actually a mixture of body oil, mineral deposits, talc from soap, mildew and hard water sampling. Not to mention, the spots, stains, lime scale and general bathroom grime buildup on the shower doors. Moreover, if you've tried to get rid of the scum, then you know how tiring endless scrubbing can be. Let's have a quick look at how to clean shower doors.

How to Clean Shower Doors

The stores are flooded with all kinds of shower door cleaners. However, these commercial cleaners are often harsh on the door material and also toxic to skin. Thus, the best way to clean shower doors is by using natural cleansing products. Read more on cleaning products.

Vinegar

Did you know you could clean shower doors with vinegar? Into a clean spray bottle, pour warm, full strength white distilled vinegar and spray it on the shower door. After half an hour, scrub the door surface with a sponge and follow with a fresh stream of water to rinse away the scum.

Lemon - Sandpaper

Lemon and glass-grade sandpaper are effective in cleaning glass doors, especially those with tough calcified buildup. Squeeze a teaspoon of lemon juice onto sandpaper and use it to clean the calcified portions. The acid in the juice eats away the hard deposits on the glass, thereby rendering it sparkly clean. Read more on bathroom cleaning.

Tartar - Hydrogen Peroxide

Cleaning shower doors with rust stains can be quite tiring. For such tough stains, one should prepare a paste with two tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide and 5 tablespoons of tartar. Apply this paste onto the glass using a scratch-free nylon scrubber. After, 10 minutes rinse off the paste with distilled water.

Automatic Dishwasher Detergent

If you have automatic dishwasher detergent at home, then mix one part of this solution with three parts of water and spray it onto the glass doors. After 15 minutes, scrub the door with a sponge and rinse with distilled water.

Baking Soda

We are all aware of the deodorizing and scouring properties of baking soda. To clean your shower doors, take some baking soda on a sponge and wipe the door and then rinse it. Another method is by mixing one cup baking soda with one cup salt. In a spray bottle take warm white vinegar and spray it onto the glass door. Take a sponge and get it a little moist with some plain water. Use this moist sponge to apply the baking soda-salt mixture on the doors. Scrub and rinse the door. Read more on baking soda uses.

Steel Wool

Take one teaspoon of detergent and add it to a cup of hot water. Dunk the steel wool into this solution and start scrubbing the shower door. As feared, the steel wool does not conduce to scratches on the glass doors. In fact it removes grime from the door surface. Moreover, the detergent breaks down the hard-water deposits.

Rock Salt

Rock salt is quite effective in getting rid of hard-water deposits on glass shower doors. However, rock salt can only be used on glass shower doors and not any other material. Use a sponge to scrub rock salt onto the glass doors and rinse.
