In Boston Wedding Bands are frequent fixtures at traditional wedding receptions. In Hungary, the new bride puts both of her shoes in the middle of the dance floor. Prospective dance partners must drop money in her shoes if they want to dance with her. In a twist on the money dance, a Polish groom removes his bride’s veil and guests, rather than giving a gift, drop money in the veil. The dancing at a traditional African wedding leans toward traditional and symbolic West-African dances that celebrate the newly joined couple; you’re much more likely to hear drums and chanting than Mozart and classical music. The guests at a Mexican wedding celebration form a heart-shaped circle around the bride and groom before the couple take their first dance together. As you can see, dance traditions around the world vary widely. In Los Angeles, New Orleans, and Boston, wedding bands might be the traditional option, but they aren’t the only option. If you do want to use a band, ask them if they would be willing to help you incorporate ideas from other countries to make your wedding unique. Music and dancing are common to almost all wedding celebrations around the world.
